Safe Driving
The importance of driver’s education is so that young minds know what to look for out on the road. These young minds get the basic knowledge to become a perfect and safe driver. In the class portion of driver’s education you will see some short clips as to what may or may not happen depending on how you choose to drive. If you choose to drive under the influence of something, whether that be alcohol or drugs, then your driving experience is going to be impaired. Also in the class portion of driver’s education you come to learn some minor laws and even the signs that you will see your first time behind the wheel of the car going down a road. I believe that making it to where our cell phones were not of any use once they enter a vehicle and you are the one behind the wheel., unless the person you are trying to reach is the police or under emergency contacts. I also believe that if more classes, like the D.A.R.E class in elementary school, were done in higher grades then kids would see how much stuff can change their lives in a second. I have been in a car accident that was deemed a 50/50, even though it was the other car’s fault. I was on the way home from work, when I received a call from my mother to turn around and go back to the store. I was in the left turning lane, the light was blinking yellow. The car coming the opposite direction had turned their left turn signal on to go onto the other road, so I proceeded to do a U turn. I of course checked to make sure this other vehicle was still turning and they were, but the second I turned away to make my turn there was a huge smack into my passenger side. As it turns out, the couple in the other vehicle were arguing and going above the speed limit. They had also failed to turn their left signal off before merging back into the straight lane. Due to their arguing they were not paying attention and by the time they saw me, it was too late. Only damages to cars were done, all humans were okay. That is the only major accident I have been in, but I have heard stories from my friends and families about theirs. My step-father was in an accident that caused him to run into another car. He stated that he was sitting at a stop light when an SUV came barreling into the back of his car at 45 mph. This force of course caused him to rear end the car in front of him, luckily cars were the only thing banged up in that one. I had an old boyfriend who got a speed racing ticket because he and his friend thought it would be “cool” to go 115 mph down a highway while it was raining. I almost lost my mother due to a tractor trailer stopping in the middle of a bridge and her car went all the way under the back end of the tractor. I have lost several friends from car accidents. One was when I was in the eighth grade and it was due to another vehicle driver being under the influence. The most recent one happened last month in October 2021. Honestly all I know about that one is that people just were not paying attention and I am glad that is all I know because I could not bear any more details. I believe that I can take the steps of watching the road more and possibly being on my phone a little less, less than I already am. I wear my seat belt and I always get onto my loved ones about wearing theirs. While yes seat belts can be harmful, they can also save you from going through a window or windsheild. I believe and I know that this may sound harsh, but once people reach a certain age they should have to take a drivers test of some sort again. I have noticed that a lot of my missed calls or my loved ones’ missed calls have been due to the fact of an elderly driver not paying attention to their surroundings. I do understand that when an older generation started driving, there were a lot less cars, but not now and not any time in the future.
