“Safety Looks Good On You”

You’re going too fast! Stop! You’re too close to that car. Slow down!” I said to my brother. Panicking. My nerves travelled faster than usual, and my heart was pounding. I was so upset that my blood began to boil. All I thought was how can an experienced driver drive so recklessly! I quickly told him to pull over. We had an intense conversation and the part that stood out to me that I found hilarious was when he said, “I got my license. I know what I’m doing.” I turned to him with a surprised face. “You know what you’re doing!” I spoke to him seriously and explained to him about one of the common reasons for deaths and that was the result of car accidents and people driving irresponsibly and recklessly that put people’s life at stake and told him why it’s important to drive safely. “There are situations in life that come so suddenly and unexpectedly. In a blink of an eye, incidents happen that you can’t control. With driving, everyone wishes they can drive or is thrilled that they can drive to be independent and can transport themselves to and from their destination. Driving serves many purposes, such as reliability and efficiency. But in a moment, things can change and become a nightmare and that’ll, in result, cause casualties and injuries that can change you or someone else’s whole aspect of life. It can only take seconds to change a lifetime. Just because you or the other driver was driving recklessly. The importance of driver education in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving is to give knowledge to experienced drivers or future drivers the value of safety as a driver and the significance of a pedestrian’s life. So, there are some steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. The first step is to obey the law. The purpose of the law is to reduce hectic and chaotic road problems. Imagine the ample number of disastrous circumstances that will happen if there were no laws specifically for driving. Sometimes people don’t listen and do anyway and when they see something that happens to them, they take that experience of not listening and change and start to obey the law. That is why obeying the law is important. The second step is to pay attention- be aware of your surroundings. In some cases, as humans, we tend to get distracted and start thinking of different things that can drift us off that makes us forget that we’re even driving. For example, you can be mentally unstable to where you’re not focusing on what is currently happening and that affects your driving as well, which can cause severe accidents. So, be alert to your surroundings. The third step is to think about safety when driving on the road. For instance, you may be on your way to work, and you pull up to a group of cars and one of them doesn’t have patience. You can analyze the person and observe that that person doesn’t want anything said to them and just wants to hurry to go to their destination. Thinking safety critically can put you in a safe position and guaranteeing a zero percent chance that the person will try to do anything dangerous because occasionally, bothering people on the road will cause a serious problem which can also lead to danger, so think safety for your best interest. If you see someone that has road rage and is speeding, slow down. Don’t try to speed as well because you’re taking a risk trying to satisfy the speedy driver. Lastly, the final step and the most valuable step is to watch for pedestrians. The number of people who are involved in car accidents or drive irresponsibly can sometimes kill someone who is walking on the sidewalk. Watching for pedestrians and being cautious, can help you not kill or injure a pedestrian that wasn’t primarily involved in the accident. Moreover, there are also steps to be a better and safer driver as well as helping others become safer on the road. The first thing I do is check my vehicle to make sure everything is in good condition. Even though repairs are not cheap, it is very useful to make sure everything is good for you to drive on the road.  The second thing I do is buckle up. Buckling up is a must and it is a safe way to drive on the road. The third thing I do is put my phone on “Do Not Disturb.” This is the best way I ignore text and calls while driving on the road. The final thing I do is keep a safe distance. You don’t want to be too close to the vehicle in front of you. This way also helps with observing everything that is happening and helps with acting quickly if necessary. So, do you understand why it is important to drive safely,” I said. “Yes, I understand how the safe way is the best way,” my brother said. “That’s more like it and remember, safety looks good on anyone that is considerate to drive safely.”
