Driving Risks

As we all may know, teens are always eager to learn how to drive and start driving on their own. They are not aware of the risks there are in driving. Even Though there are certain steps for an individual to receive a Driver’s License, the individuals still do not learn what is the correct way to conduct on the road sometimes. Driving is more dangerous and deadly for our nation, and an individual should learn the proper way to drive on the road before even driving alone. I personally believe that it should take about a year before an individual is able to attain their Driver’s License. It might seem like a long time, but learning the proper way to drive is for our own safety.

Online driving classes should not be allowed, because sometimes the individuals just skip throughout the entire course and do not necessarily learn the proper way to drive or learn what the traffic signs mean. There are times where an individual just takes a course online without being taught with in person driving classes. I want to encourage the Texas Driving Department to take a close look into expanding the steps into getting a Driver’s License from personal experience of seeing my cousin do these exact steps and fail to conduct on the road. Before anyone is able to touch the wheel they should be aware of everything regarding driving. There are times where I am driving and see cars just jumping from lane to lane without putting their direction lights. It is the little things that matter, because accidents can happen on an everyday basis. I fear that we will continue to have a massive amount of car accidents because people do not know how to drive.

Additionally, the majority of car accidents happen due to drunk driving, so there should be a major punishment for this cause. It is definitely nor okay to drink and drive. So many innocent lives are taken each day because of drunk drivers. When someone drinks and drives or is under any influence they are not in their five senses, of which they are not able to think properly. They either pass red lights or go above speed limits. In other words, driving under the influence not only puts the driver at risk but also puts at risk innocent people’s lives. There are people who love going outdoors whether it is to ride bikes, play sports, or just any outdoor activity, but sometimes they fear doing any of these activities because they fear that someone will run over them. Driving is a risk we take everyday, because we are not always promised to return home safely. All drivers should be attentive and cautious when conducting the steering wheel.

Imagine how many people get on the road ready to go shopping or go to the park with no clue that they will not be able to return home safely. A few years ago, there was an incident where a family was on their way home from a family party and a drunk driver crashed straight into them. This situation brought tears to my eyes because the children not only lost their mother but they also lost their brother. Situations like this one is what breaks my heart, because the decisions of irresponsible drunk drivers other people suffer and all they get is go to prison. Even if the drunk driver goes to prison, the family who is affected is broken inside because they lost a family member so it does not take the pain away.

I have personally experienced a situation where my mom’s uncle was a victim of a drunk driver’s car accident. My mom’s uncle was an innocent man who provided for his son and grandchildren. As he was on his way to work, he was struck at a red light by a drunk driver. He was taken to the hospital after having injuries all over his body, but unfortunately he was not able to make it home safely. The entire family was devastated, because we would have never thought it would happen to one of our family members. A literal angel was taken away from us forever without even saying goodbye to him. It is extremely important to be responsible when conducting a vehicle because your actions can have devastating consequences for others. We should all be considerate of other people’s innocent lives and drive safely so we can all make it home safe and healthy everyday.
