The importance of driving save
I remember being 16 in a classroom board out of my mind while a short man tells me about driving. At the same time, I look at the clock, wondering when this will end. However, I didn’t realize at the time how important that class was until now. The education that comes with driver training may be extended and boring at times but it is all crucial information that will save your life. One wrong move at an intersection or even one could be fatal to you, another person, or both. Trying to reduce this is simply going back to the basics, turning down the music, looking at the mirrors, staying two to three-car lengths back from the driver ahead, and doing checks before leaving to ensure drivers’ comfort. A big thing starting out as a driver is to check your car. Check your car as in the PSI of the wheel, how much fluids I have, if there is an animal under the car, the lights, the seat, and finally my mirrors. An automotive is not a toy or something to go fast in. It is one of the most critical educations one gets at the age of 16.
I have been in one car accident. I honestly didn’t think it happened mainly because I wasn’t driving, but it felt like the driver just stopped. We were only going about two or three miles per hour, and it wasn’t horrible. In the same since a friend of mine passed away this year because of a car accident. He was going too fast and the car hydroplaned into a tree. The crash completely crushed him, and it was a horrible scene. He was going too fast, and that’s what caused the crash. If he would’ve slowed down, then it wouldn’t have happened. His family was just crushed because that was their only child. When I went up to them and hugged them, they told me they wished they had one more day with him. Their only son was dead because of a mistake of driving too fast in the rain and hitting a tree.
In high school, I had many friends who liked to race and play around with their vehicles. Although they never died or anything horrible, they have gotten injured from it. A friend (Jacob) of mine was going mudding, and my other friend (Reily) was with him on a four-wheeler. Reily was doing a wheelie and slipped off while Jacob was in the truck was too busy with his car. I yelled at him because I saw it happen, but he couldn’t hear me. I almost saw a friend get hit, but Jacob saw Reily on time to stop. Reily snapped his ankle from the fall and was in pain. We took him to the hospital, and he was on crutches for the rest of the year. He completely missed out on his season of football and baseball. I had another friend his name was trace and he had a mustang and it was fast. I remember hearing about how he can beat anyone in a race. The worst part is that people actually raced him.
There are many steps a person can take to prevent an accident and drive safely. What I’m doing to help avoid an accident and to drive safely is slowing down. I used to speed a lot, and ever since my friend died, I’ve slowed down and stayed behind cars at a reasonable distance. Also, I don’t challenge that light; yellow means slow down, not to speed up. I am also being aware of my surroundings and sticking to the basics. A huge one for me was putting down my phone and not eating while driving. These habits that I had were horrible and I could’ve been just like my friend. I remember almost crashing into farming equipment that was on the back of a trailer because I wasn’t being diligent. I definitely keep the phone down and wait to stop somewhere to eat my food.
Driving can be truly scary at times and can make your heart pump fast than it has before. Watching my friends do the dumb things they did and then watching a friend go into a casket six feet under is heartbreaking. Realizing and seeing everything I have seen I’m not going outside of the basics and remain being a safe driver. The class drivers ED gives one person all the requirements needed to successfully make it home to their families. In saying this it takes one glance at your phone or going too fast that can cause an accident. Taking the classes and paying attention to them is important so that you and I can be safe on the roads.
