Let’s Be Safe!
In my essay I will discuss the importance of driving safe and my experience with driver education. I first started driver education at the age of 15 years old. I am now 18 years old and a senior in high school. When I first started driver education I was excited. The thought of getting my permit and then one day driving myself to school and work was very exciting. I remember my mom talking to me about safety and making sure I follow traffic signs. I would tell my mom “I Got This Mom”. The day I started driving on my own. Wow, the way people drove and hunk their horns when you are driving the speed limit. It was a lot of pressure and sweat behind a wheel when you’re only 16 years old. But I continue to think I “Got This” I know what I am doing. I went to driver education, received my permit and I now have my licenses. I just felt so proud of my accomplishment which I should. Now that I am 18 years old and seeing so many accidents and deaths with driving. I soon realized driving behind a wheel is very serious. One wrong turn or text driving can change someone else life or mines.
Having the opportunity to take driver education helped with the understanding the importance of safe driving. The process of learning how to drive safe and using the safety precaution is very important. I took drivers education my sophomore year and I learned many different things that I was unaware of when it comes to driving and being safe. I live in Milwaukee, WI and driving since the pandemic has be very scary. Many drivers are young and unlicensed and unaware of the importance of taking classes and following driving rules. Driver education brings awareness of how to keep yourself safe and others. The purpose of the driver education is to make sure civilians are following driving protocols to reduce reckless driving.
Driving unsafe increases, the death rate when people do not follow safety measurements. If people drive safe we won’t have to worry about burying our love ones from the result of driving mistakes.
Putting driver education in highs schools to teach students the importance of safe driving will increase awareness. This will allow students to have the opportunity to learn about the importance of driver education. There are so many people who aren’t able to afford the cost of driver education. School districts should make drivers education mandorty in high school. This way students receive education and have the opportunity to learn the importance of safe driving.
This past September I was in a car accident and I was so scared. This moment has changed my life because the accident was serious. Just to think that I could have lost my life and not be writing this essay at this moment. I am thankful no one was injured in the car accident. I was driving irresponsible and ran a red light. I thought I was able to make the red light and I hit another vehicle. Lucky no one was hurt and I am grateful to be writing how important driving safe is imperative and to also follow all the rules. I see a lot of reckless driving where I leave with people driving straight through the lights or turning in front of other vehicles causing an accident. Since the pandemic in Milwaukee, WI research has shown that fatal crashes have been 540 in 2020. With so many crashes concern with the pandemic has spiked a higher percentage in car theft causing a lot of safety issues for drivers.
I also think talking about safe driving in community is important. With so many accidents and people dying from reckless driving. The community has to step up and start having conversations on the importance of safe driving and how that looks.
Since my accident I make sure I am following the traffic rules at all times. I will also do the speed limit making sure I am aware of my speed when driving. Making sure I am not running late planning and not rushing. I also share the importance to my peers the importance of driving safe and encouraging driver education courses. Having discussion at my school district to discuss bringing back driver education in Milwaukee Public School Districts for students to have the opportunity learn the importance of safe driving. Teaching the importance of safe driving because it can save your life and others. This increases the chances of death rates, imprisonment and having lower car insurance.
