Why is driving education so important?
There is no feeling like it. Being a young adult and knowing you are in complete control of your vehicle. I know at least for me, I feel like I am on top of the world when I am driving. Now of course in addition to all of that initial excitement, I feel the weight of responsibility on my shoulders, the fear in the back of my mind what if something goes wrong?
Driver education is probably the most important thing to have before you begin your journey of operating any type of vehicle. Everyone does the initial driver’s ed course. Answers questions about how it’s bad to drink and drive, never text and drive, keep your hands at 10 and 2. The reality is most teens blow through those questions and lessons quickly just to hurry up and pass so they can get to driving. What a lot of young people don’t understand is driving is one of the most dangerous things to do. You are traveling 60 plus miles an hour on a road with hundreds of other people all with the same purpose, to get to their destination on time. But without being properly educated on how to stay focused and in control, tragedy can strike. When one lack’s the proper education on how to drive safely, it can not only cost their own lives but the lives of innocent people around them.
Asking what can be done to reduce the number of deaths when driving is a complicated question with no specific answer. You can say make people watch videos of what can happen if you aren’t a careful driver, but chances are most people have already seen those and quickly forget all they have seen once they get back on the road and are in a hurry to get from one place to another. Many cars are already being produced with the utmost safety features, crash assist, cameras, lane assist, but again that can’t keep everyone from having an accident. I don’t think there is one single thing anyone can do to prevent accidents, but I believe something can be done to at least reduce the number of deaths from car accidents. I think the only thing to do to help reduce the number of deaths in cars is to keep moving forward in what we are doing. Making more cars with safety features to ensure that a lot of accidents are to be stopped before they ever happen. To keep educating people and making sure they are aware that they are not the only people on the road. There are innocent families with children and even pets who would suffer from one person’s catastrophic mistake of merely picking up their cell phone while driving, or driving under the influence.
I have never personally been in any serious car accident if you don’t count the one fender bender that resulted from my parents spilling their soft drink, causing my dad to take his foot off of the break at a red light. I have however had family members be in accidents and most were to no fault of their own. People just need to be educated in what to do if they see a car swerving uncontrollably across the road, or how to handle it if they lose control of their vehicle. I think so many people especially teenagers and young adults are so excited to just get out on the road, they don’t stop to think about the amount of danger they are putting themselves and others around them as soon as they get into their vehicle.
I hate driving fast. My parents constantly tell me to go faster because I am going below the speed limit. I usually am pretty nervous when I drive even though I have done it for years. I think I need to drive with more confidence if I want to ensure I am safe on the road. Being a nervous driver cause lead to all sorts of accidents. Now of course some people are overconfident and who drive recklessly. I think you need to be a happy medium of being confident and cautious. You want to have confidence that you know what you are doing and that you would be able to avoid situations that would be otherwise fatal. But also have that level of being cautious about what is going on around you, so that you are constantly keeping an eye out for those drivers who are being reckless and irresponsible.
Driving is a privilege. It is something that can be taken away from you in an instant. Driving is not something to take lightly and I feel so many people take it for granted. They don’t take into consideration others on the road. I think as life goes on and more accidents occur due to the increased number of new drivers hitting the road every day, people will realize they must have the proper education when it comes to driving to keep themselves and everyone around them safe.
