You Never Know What’s on the Road
Drivers education is vital to having safe drivers on our roads and highways. The course covers everything from basic rules of the road to tricky situations that many don’t expect to encounter. Extensive knowledge about driving is gained during the lessons because of the hands on and classroom work that has to be done. Going out in the real world and practicing driving is more impactful than sitting in a classroom and learning. Although class work is still key since it takes the time to cover the rules of the road. People who take the course learn about the importance of driving sober which helps prevent drunk driving accidents. Another aspect of the course is defensive driving techniques so that a person will be prepared for a variety of driving situations. Not only that but knowing the different traffic laws guides a person towards driving safely. Those who take the course are started at a young age which helps lower the rate of teen driving related incidents.
To prevent the deaths of people from driving related incidents steps can be taken to lower the amount of deaths. The first most important step is making sure that teens drivers take a drivers education course. This ensures that the drivers on the roads are knowledgeable defensive drivers. Being well rested is also important since that makes your vision and movements well prepared for any situations that come your way. More awareness towards car related accidents and drunk driving can make a big difference. Making a campaign about the importance of saving your life and others by wearing a seatbelt and would encourage people to buckle up. An issue that might come up is if you plan to get drunk or use drugs, always think about the risks of driving. Even if you have had a tiny bit of drugs or alcohol it’s still enough to endanger yourself or others. Without a doubt another step that needs to be emphasized is having a designated driver. Obviously this is necessary since drunk driving is a big factor in driving related incidents. Lastly avoid speeding is an everyday occurrence but a big issue at all costs since it could be a life or death situation. This could be publicized through banners and road signs as reminders to slow down and be cautious.
Personally I have only experienced one accident in my lifetime but there was an instance where my peers were driving irresponsibly. It all started one night after curfew when a group of my peers got in their SUV and started going 100 miles an hour on the highway. If that isn’t unsafe enough already the driver was under the influence of marjuana. All of this leads to them getting pulled over and the driver losing their license till they turn 18. Along with that the others get a citation which is not good for any of their driving records. This was impactful for me because it brought on a lot of strong feelings of anger and worry. They were putting other drivers on the road at risk besides themselves. After taking time to reflect on this situation I realized how awful and risky their actions were just for a rush of adrenaline and having fun. Don’t fall into peer pressure for the sake of yourself and others on the road. This is a lesson to be learned as an irresponsible driver you will receive consequences that leave a mark on your permanent record.
As I mentioned before, taking steps to make the road a safer place and reduce deaths is super vital. As a driver myself I have to take time to make sure I’m making good choices. First and foremost I can choose a safe crash tested car that will keep me safe as well as my passengers. I can also take a drivers education course to prepare myself for safe driving techniques. Along with the driving techniques I can be mindful of the weather and drive accordingly. Additionally I can encourage my peers to make good driving decisions. I can remember to remind my peers about having a designated driver and wearing a seatbelt. Buckling my seatbelt is an easy step to take that believe it or not makes a huge difference. I can avoid touching my phone while driving, which includes changing the songs or texting during red lights. Traffic lights change quickly and technically you are still driving which means it’s against the law anyways. Since you never know what you’ll encounter on the roads take that extra step and use safety precautions while driving. Buckle up, drive sober and take a drivers education class you won’t be sorry you could be saving a life.
