Be a Safe Driver

Be a Safe Driver

Every year, many people die from drunk driving, distracted driving, and car accidents. It is extremely important for everyone to know the rules of the road in order to keep themselves safe and to keep those around them safe. Learning how to drive safely and appropriately is crucial, and the simple daily task should be taken seriously as it can avoid putting anybody in danger. Every person on the road needs to have the proper knowledge to operate a vehicle and know how to behave on public streets. Even if others are not following these rules, it should be our duty to bring it to their attention and let them know what they are putting at risk. To stay wholly focused on the road while behind the wheel is crucial as it will reduce the number of car accidents and injuries. There are many simple ways to help improve a person’s driving as well as keeping everyone safe and out of harm’s way.

As everyone has learned while obtaining a permit, it is illegal to drive under the influence of any alcoholic beverage. This guideline is a crucial law as it is meant to keep everyone out of danger from seriously injuring themselves or others. Every person should know that they should not be intoxicated or drinking while driving; it is essential to avoid losing lives. It is also necessary to not be distracted while behind the wheel; we should always be focused on operating a vehicle. That being said, everyone needs to put their phones away or out of reach to avoid picking them up and looking at their messages. It would also be necessary to put their phone on silent to keep away the urge of checking it when they hear the familiar ding of a text. If the stereo is too loud, it should be turned down to keep people focused on driving and to be able to hear their surroundings clearly for anything that needs to be brought to their attention, like an ambulance. It is important to follow all of these rules as it will keep everyone focused on driving safely, ultimately reducing the number of car accidents and deaths on the road.

However, no matter how much knowledge a person has of the road and knowing the rules that they should follow, they still refuse to obey them. Both of my parents know that they should not be looking at their phones while driving but still continue reading and sending out text messages. Every time I see this happen, I do my best to let them know that it is dangerous and take their phones out of their reach. I hope that they realize how much danger they are putting at risk by simply taking their eyes off the road for a few seconds. They are putting their own life, my life, and possibly other’s lives in our surroundings at risk. Luckily neither of them have gotten into an accident yet, but if they continue to drive irresponsibly, it will only be a matter of time before it does happen. But as long as I am in the car with them, I will make sure that they stay focused on the road and not on anything else, as it is the best way to keep us all safe.

As I have recently started driving, I have learned how, if not taken responsibly, it can easily go wrong and can put people in horrible situations. I have grasped how extremely important it is to stay focused on driving at all times because anything can happen in just one second that will put people’s lives in danger. Since I have acquired this knowledge, I know what I should not be doing while behind the wheel. I will always keep my phone somewhere that I can not reach and put it on silent so I will not get the urge to answer it. My stereo will also be turned down to a lower volume, so I will be able to focus more on driving instead of the music and hear everything around me. But most importantly, I will refuse to get behind the wheel while intoxicated; instead, I will catch a ride with another person who has not been drinking. All of these things will help me ensure that I am doing my part of keeping myself and others safe on the road. I hope that others will realize the importance of safe driving and do the same.
