“What is the importance of driver education in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving? What steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving? Have you ever had an experience of being in a car accident or have seen your friends or family members driving irresponsibly? What steps can you take to be a better and safer driver as well as help others become safer on the road?”

In this essay, I will be discussing the importance of driver education and the importance of taking safer steps towards the decrease of car accidents. Driver education is a necessary step when obtaining a driving permit and/or your driver’s license. A driving permit requires knowledge of the road while the driver’s license requires direct experience of driving to attain education on the road. Unfortunately, deaths and injuries caused by the lack of driver education are very high. Car accidents can scare people for life. Reckless driving needs to be addressed in order to reduce car accidents and deaths. In this essay, I will explain steps that can be taken to become a safer driver and reduce the number of car-related deaths.

The importance of driver education is the very reason why we have to take a driving permit test before the physical driving test. Knowledge of the road and laws, make drivers mindful when driving. Laws are put in place to ensure the safety of drivers in certain situations. Driver education from the permit test, allows first-time drivers to be smart on the road. Another important point to bring up is that driver’s education reduces the number of deaths caused by accidents. Some accidents are inevitable, but knowledge of the road and laws has a higher chance of preventing such accidents. Knowledge allows drivers to make better decisions when driving. Similar to taking a test, gaining knowledge of a subject makes your performance better on tests and quizzes. Drivers will not be as reckless or impulsive with driving as they have the knowledge to make decisions on the road. Highway fatalities have never dropped below 30,000 annually since 2005; this is more deaths than the American Revolutionary War. This statistic shows that better education on the road needs to be learned. Car accidents cause more death in America than deaths in certain wars. I believe that this all comes down to increasing driving education. As I mentioned previously, the importance of driver education allows drivers to be safer while driving in order to reduce the number of deaths caused by car accidents.

Personally, I have never have been in a car accident. Honestly, I have recently started to drive and realized that drivers become reckless when driving and are not aware of their surroundings. It seems like drivers become careless as they become more experienced when driving. My parents and family members have been in many car accidents. Fortunately, there has not been any critical damage from those accidents. Sometimes it was their fault and sometimes it was the other driver’s fault. It is observed that most of these accidents were caused by drivers not being aware of their surroundings or the impatience of other drivers. I have seen family members also drive recklessly as they performed distracting activities like texting and smoking. There was a time that I was in a car that was going 100mph on the highway. That is the most vivid memory I have of reckless driving. I use this situation to encourage drivers to be more educated about driving. How am I supposed to be comfortable driving when the average number of deaths caused by car accidents is 34,000 annually. I cannot stress enough that the importance of driver education prevents accidents, reckless driving, and ensures the safety of first-time drivers.

In order to decrease the number of deaths from car accidents and become safer drivers, steps need to be taken by drivers and the DMV. To reduce reckless driving, there should be more police monitoring highways to catch drivers breaking the law. There should also be more penalties and offenses for drivers breaking the law. Lastly, car companies should have monitors and sensors in the car to warn drivers that they are breaking the law in that area. This ensures that drivers know about their reckless driving and can stop their actions. In addition, steps should be taken to better the education of drivers. There should be more questions on the driver’s permit test about the laws in that state. There are a lot of statistics about the dangers of driving or common car actions, but the test lacks questions about state laws. Drivers should also spend more time on the road during the physical driving test to test how they react to laws and their surroundings.

In conclusion, safe driving is an essential part of human life. It is nice to have cars as they are convenient, but it is necessary to handle one’s car responsibly. We need to prevent deaths by driving as much as possible. This all comes down to educating drivers about the laws, their surroundings, and driving in general. Reforms and steps are needed to ensure the safety of driving.
