Social Media and Driving Dangers
Social Media and Driving Dangers
To me driving is a huge responsibility, many may think the same way, but there is always that group of people that thinks that driving is to be free and go anywhere you want at any time because you only live once. I think ways to reduce dangerous driving habits are always giving yourself plenty of time to get to your destination, being aware of your surroundings, driving without any distracts or having any distractions put away, and following/ obeying the rules when driving. It sounds easy but I know for sure it’s hard for others especially for teenagers. Social media and texting are one of the biggest distractions for everyone, but especially when you are a teen. The reason why is because since technology is advancing more and more it becomes harder for a teen because they are the biggest users of social media, they are the ones with a big obsession with social media.
They always want to know what is going on around them or with others. Social media is one of the biggest threats for everyone when driving because it could cost your life, and now in days you can access your social media account through a phone. Before social media became a huge thing, calling and driving was a deadly distraction, then it turned to driving and texting and now it is social media and driving. It may not be a big distraction for adults for teenagers it has become a normal habit for them to tweet or post a story about an incident that happened in the highway, or a huge traffic they may be stuck in. Another reason why social media is a big threat is because when you are driving and you can get a notification from you Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or news feed and the first thing you want to do when you received is to get on your phone and check what it is about, because you do not want to miss out.
Well not only do you put yourself at a dangerous high risk, but you also put others at that high risk as well. I feel that teens always have that feeling they must check that nonfiction they got from Instagram, Snapchat, or Twitter because they either will be behind, and be able to get caught or because they do not want to let that person on open or deliver for such a long time. I feel like if they would just understand that their safe and the safety of those around them either in the car or on the road is much more important, because that text or notification will still be there when they got to their destination. If they check while they are driving, they can get into a serious accident that cost their and maybe they will never find out about the text or the reason why they got it. That is why I think it is important to focus on driving because if you still want to know what is going on in your social media then pay attention when you’re driving and don’t let your focus slip away to your phone when it buzzes.
