The Importance of Drivers’ Education
As a young driver, I am aware of the increased importance of drivers’ education. Because I am in high school, I am surrounded daily by inexperienced drivers. This is not typically a problem, but of course there is an exception to everything. Young drivers can often be reckless only because they are inexperienced when it comes to driving. However, I cannot imagine a world where young drivers were given a license without a prerequisite drivers’ education course. As a result of my drivers’ education, I have avoided many situations in which could have proved dangerous or even fatal if I had not known the information learned through hands-on learning as well as classroom learning drivers’ ed.
The importance of drivers’ education is, of course, to keep yourself and others safe while driving. When driving responsibly and defensively, the probability of a car wreck reduces overwhelmingly. By being knowledgeable about the rules and safety of the road, vehicular wrecks will reduce and so will the numbers of injury and death resulting from these wrecks. Therefore, drivers’ education is extremely important for everybody to include themselves in. Regardless of how meaningless some may deem the system, the information learned might save a life. I know for me, I have applied my knowledge of drivers’ education in order to avoid potentially dangerous situations. For example, when I see someone driving irresponsibly and I cannot maneuver my vehicle around them to avoid the potentially dangerous situation they are creating, I simply remember to keep my hands on the wheel, my eyes on the road, and drive as cautiously as possible to keep myself and others safe. When you are like me, driving family around on a daily basis, remembering lessons taught through a drivers’ education course can save the lives of family members and keep the driver from feeling lifelong guilt stemming from uncautious driving habits.
In order to reduce the amount of death and injury involved in vehicular collisions and other driving issues, education is always key. Most wrecks are the result of ignorance or forgotten driving lessons. Many drivers have not had to take a road knowledge test since they were 15 years old. If drivers were required to take a standardized test every few years to maintain and renew their drivers license, people might be prompted to study and freshen up on their driving knowledge. By refreshing oneself of the rules of the road and other regulations to abide by, the roads will be a safer place, and drivers will continue to have extensive knowledge in regards to the road rules they are expected to abide by, and therefore a shorter amount of time to forget them. In contrast, those who cannot pass the test will have their license revoked and will not be able to obtain them until again they can pass with a full regained knowledge of the road.
I, myself have not been in a car accident that I can remember, though the potential for one is always looming. There are often times friends will be prompted to drive irresponsibly to “show off” or goof around, and there have been a few situations where I have been inside of a vehicle with irresponsible drivers, but I am fully aware it happens regularly, which is a problem. Almost all of us know someone whose life was taken too early due to reckless driving, whether it was caused by them or someone else, and it is a completely disheartening situation. That is why it is always important to ensure that you are taking every precaution possible to keep yourself and your passengers safe. Operating a motor vehicle is a privilege, and it would be a shame to lose that privilege due to reckless driving habits.
In order to be a better and safer driver, it is important for me to always make sure I am keeping both hands on the wheel and my eyes on the road. It is of utmost importance to be a defensive, not offensive driver. This is important because when one drives defensively, they are looking out for every possible scenario that could prove itself dangerous, and determining how to avoid that situation. When one drives offensively, they are more than likely causing a distressful and dangerous situation for not only themself, but the other drivers on the road. Because I do my best to ensure I am taking all of the measures necessary to be a cautious driver, I am avoiding irresponsible driving habits, therefore keeping other companions safe on the road.
