“Driving with Confidence and Caution”

Driver education is crucial for callow drivers. Driver education provides a sense of guidance for immature drivers, allowing for them to learn and have a sense of reassurance in their driving skills. Driver education is a key component in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving, through teaching new, inexperienced drivers the importance of safety. Driver education can not only teach one how to drive, but also teach them to drive with caution and confidence and also educate them on what type of situation could come their way. This can result in making a cautious but confident driver who will be safe on the road. Some steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving include always wearing a seatbelt, this in of itself can reduce risk of injury or death by fifty percent. Always insist the passengers in the car to wear one as well, it is just as important for them to wear a seatbelt as for the driver. An additional step is to never drive under influence, whether it be alcohol or drugs, there should always be an assigned or designated driver who is not under the influence. Sometimes this can be inconvenient, but it is much more important to be safe. Another thing to note is to drive with a sense of confidence and caution, instead of aggression. Sometimes people mistake confidence for aggression, but the two are completely different. Driving with confidence and caution, instead of aggression will make for a more responsible driver. Even more, do not drive at an unsafe speed because you are late to something. I myself am guilty of doing this a numerous of times, but it is better to get there a little late without speeding than to get into a car accident and never show up. Furthermore, be alert while driving, avoid those who seem like unsafe drivers and always be watching those around you. Finally, take away all distractions, whether that be a phone or even music if it is distracting to the driver it should be put away. It is easy to get tempted by these distractions, but it is important to always be doing the safest things possible while driving.

I myself have never been in a car accident, but I have seen multiple friends and family members get into one. Just the other week, my friend was looking at her phone and she rear ended the car in front of her at a stop sign, going thirty-five miles per hour. She and the other person she hit were luckily okay, but both cars were totaled. She was very fortunate to not have any injuries, but most of the time that is not that case. Another friend of mine was going into a round-about and did not look, resulting in her crashing into another car. She and her family ended up in the hospital with a couple broken bones, but she too was very fortunate for no serious medical complications. I have seen so many accidents while driving down the road, some not looking as favorable as others. I have had family members nearly die from car accidents, and learning from all these situations I can be a more cautious driver. A step I can take to be a safer driver is to remove distractions, sometimes I think “Oh it will be fine if I check this text,” or think that a text is more important than me looking at the road, but instead I should remove that distraction and focus on driving. An additional step I can take is to learn from past situations from family and friends or incidents I see on the side of the highway. Learning from these can help you become an alert driver without having to endure the accident yourself. I also think I sometimes believe I’m “invincible”, saying that situation would never happen to me. I think that because I am a diligent driver that I can check that text, or multitask and it will not matter. But indeed it can matter and it will if I’m not cautious. Remembering all of this will help me become a more diligent, cautious, confident, and safe driver. By just doing these simple steps it will make me a safer driver on the road, which will in return be beneficial to those around me. Knowing the importance of safety while driving will be favorable for all and in conclusion make the roads a much more secure place.
