The Importance of Being a Safe Driver

In today’s day and age, cars are a necessity that we need in our lives. Without a car, you are very limited to doing certain things. However, when it comes to being safe on the road, people struggle and often do very dumb things that can cost them their lives. For this reason, drivers need to be responsible with their choices every time they hop into a car.

Driver education is very important to reduce the number of deaths on the road. Driver education helps us learn what not to do when we drive. For example, the number one most important thing that drivers ed. helps us understand is to never drink and drive. Driving under the influence is the number one killer on the road that costs the lives of hundreds of people each year. Children are among the hundreds of victims that die each year and it’s very sad how families are left devastated because of their deaths. Drivers ed. also helps us learn not to use our phones while we drive. Phones also cost a great deal of damage to families who have lost their loved ones in a crash that was caused by someone using their phone.

Steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths are to simply stop driving under the influence of any drug. People need to know that drugs are harmful to people and that people are not capable of handling themselves when under the influence of drugs, let alone driving. Something that we can do to fix this problem is to always have a designated driver when you are going to be under the influence of alcohol or any other drug. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Another step that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths is to create programs on phones or cars that prevent people from using their phones and getting distracted while driving. Being distracted while driving can be very dangerous and can cost you your life. An example of how a program could work is like while the phone is in motion, the phone could lock itself, preventing the individual from accessing anything on the device. However, a con to this program is that you wouldn’t be able to use your phone in case of an emergency while you are driving. The final step we can take to reduce the number of deaths on the road is having more police officers on the road, especially on the highways. If we put more police officers on the road, we can effectively reduce the number of drunk drivers on the roads, and police officers can help people drive safer on the road overall.

I have never been in an accident, but I have seen my family members drive irresponsibly. I have to correct them sometimes because it just becomes too unsafe, and I have to sometimes yell at them when there’s a police officer nearby so that they can put their phone down and avoid getting a ticket. Sometimes, I feel like their irresponsible actions on the road influenced me on how I drive and it sucks because I try to be a safer driver.

One of the steps I can take to become a better driver is to not get peer pressured into doing bad stuff that can risk my life. For example, being peer pressured to drink when I am going to drive. Getting into a crash and killing someone will haunt me for the rest of my life and I would not want to be considered a killer. Also, getting DUI could ruin the rest of your life. You could be prevented from getting a job, which means you have no possible way of gaining money. As a result, you might end up on the street. One way I can help others on the road is by educating them on what not to do when they drive. For example, not getting mad when someone cuts you off. Engaging in road rage is extremely dangerous because you could lose your life in an instant. If someone is taught not to overreact, you could save their life or prevent them from getting jail time. If we can teach people not to overreact, our roads would be safer and less deadly to drive.

Teaching the importance of being a good driver can help save thousands of lives each year and could help our roads become a safer place to be in.
