Drivers Ed
As we know, driving is a privilege that many people are now able to take advantage of. However, some people do not actually realize how much of a privilege it is. You can see who doesn’t appreciate the license they do have because they are speeding and weaving in and out of traffic. Driver education is the main key to avoiding incidents involving speeding. It is not a coincidence that you see a Dodge Charger speeding down the 110 freeway and 10 minutes later you see that same car flipped over. The more people are educated in that field, the more cautious they will be. Like all education, it also improves decision making. In order to do my own part and avoid accidents and further deaths, I made sure to take road code and drivers ed. These two programs enforce the importance of being able to drive safely. Also, now that I have my drivers license, I always drive as if I have a police car right behind me. This may sound odd but many people drive very properly when there is a police car behind them. I try to recreate this everytime I drive even if there is no one behind me. You never know, maybe you are driving by a park and a ball comes rolling into the street and a child chasing after it. It is always in my mind to be as cautious as possible. Luckily, I have not been involved or close to any type of accident yet. I have had a situation where I had to swerve out of a lane because there was no time to stop. I was driving past a semi-truck and I was passing through his blindspot. He decided to start switching over to my lane with no blinkers or hand signals. He did not merge into my lane, he threw his whole truck over to my lane. I have heard a story from my father about an accident that he was in. I had to implement what I had learned from this story yesterday because it was raining as well. His accident went like this, he had to break all of a sudden because the traffic stopped to look at an accident. The annoying thing about this accident is that he managed to break in time…if it wasn’t raining. Due to the rain, the car was sliding and it slid right into the car that stopped. Unfortunately, since he hit the other car from behind it is his fault even though it was the other car’s fault. This story taught me that you must always drive according to the weather conditions. I put this to use for the first time this weekend while driving on the freeway during the rain. When the traffic would stop, I would make sure to break a while behind the car in order to be able to come to a complete stop. Luckily, my parents always drive responsibly. If for some reason they do make a mistake or a weird U-turn, they make a joke and say something along the lines of, “Whatever your Dad does, do the opposite of that.” It is a funny joke that teaches you and it sticks in your mind. Their great teaching allowed me to be able to pass my written test and behind the wheel test without having to study the DMV handbook that much because I already knew everything that was going to be asked of me on the test. Of course, the pandmeic made me wait extra time because the DMV was closed when I wanted to get things going. In order to be a better driver, people must first be afraid of death. This is because you are driving a big metal car that can take someone’s life in an instant. Then, after people finally start to value their life, they must learn the rules of the road in a driver’s education course regardless of their age. If everyone takes driver’s education, they will learn proper driving and not just study the DMV Drivers Handbook. I know for a fact that this course allowed me to learn more than the average driver in the state of California. People must always remember that driving is a privilege because it can always be taken away from you in an instant. If they don’t like it, they can always walk to their job or to their grocery shopping. We all know that driving is the most efficient way to get around.
