Why driving safety is important

Driving is something many teenagers dream of doing. As a teenager myself I can say that driving would give me the independence that I want. I would have more freedom and I could do so many more things. Take myself to school, take my siblings places, help out my parents, go out and hang out with my friends without asking my parents for a ride and so much more. All the things that one can do when they start driving overshadows what one should not do while driving. What some teenagers, and adults too, do not understand is that it comes with a huge responsibility. As a driver, you are responsible for the lives of those in the car and the cars around you. The more people that understand the consequences of reckless driving the fewer accidents would happen. Younger drivers who did not complete driver’s education are seventy-five percent more likely to get a ticket, twenty-four percent more likely to be involved in an accident, and sixteen percent more likely to have an accident. In regards to taking the right steps to reduce accidents, I think parents should really make it known that what they do can affect people. Show them facts because they cannot argue with something true. To put it simply these are the ways you can avoid getting in an accident or at least reduce the risk of getting into one. The main things are to obey the traffic laws, be predictable, avoid distractions, drive rested, and steer clear of alcohol and drugs. Some of the most common types of car accidents are rear-end collisions, backing collisions, parked car damage, parked vehicle theft, single-vehicle accidents, crashes at intersections, and windshield damage. There are ways to avoid these types of accidents. For example, with rear-end collisions, parked car damage, single-vehicle accidents, crashes at intersections, and backing collisions, you should always be aware of your surroundings and the biggest one is to never get distracted or do something that can take your eyes off the road. I think I understand the consequences of unsafe driving more because I have been in multiple accidents. The first one was when was nine or ten, I was not part of the accident but half of my family was. We were on a road trip and we had two cars. We needed to stop for gas and so we pulled up to a gas station but there were not many lights and it was really dark. I was in the first car and we made it through the gas station entry but what we did not see was that there was a trailer and it was trying to leave so the second car that had my grandparents two of my sibling and my mom drove into the trailer. Thankfully they were able to swerve away but the left side of the car was hit so my mom who was driving got hit on her left side, my brother got hit in the eye from the impact and my sister got cut by the airbag that deployed next to her. No one was severely hurt but it was scary and It showed me that I should always be aware of my surroundings. The second accident was the summer of 2015 and I was about ten or eleven. I was with my grandma and my younger sister, my grandma was driving and we were getting close to a stop light. I noticed something and distracted my grandma from seeing the road so we hit the car in front of us because we did not see that the light turned red. No one was badly hurt but it was still really scary and since then I have blamed myself for it. I learned to avoid distractions on the road and try not to distract the driver of the car I am in. The third and most recent accident I have been in was my freshman year of high school and it was the year of 2019. I was with my mom and she was about to drop me off at school. We were minding our business and we were not going fast. Out of nowhere this lady tried to make a illegal turn out of her apartment complex and ended up hitting the left side of the car. I remember my mom hitting the break and coffee getting al over the front of the car. At that point we knew that the lady was at fault because she was not supposed to turn and she was not paying attention to what was around her. We were not hurt badly which was good but it was upsetting. I learned that people around me might not be practicing safe driving rules so i have to be extra vigilant in order to reduce the risks of getting into an accident. All in all some thing I can do to be a safer driver is to not get distracted, not drive under the influence, and be aware of my surroundings and that my actions on the road have consequences.
