The importance of driving education
When it comes to driving it is extremely important to have a good education on how to be safe. Many people are not properly educated on how to be a safe driver and are not aware of how deadly driving can be if it is not done safely. If more people were to be educated on the importance of safe driving and how to be a safe driver, it would decrease the number of driving-related deaths all around the world. Because of unsafe driving, more people died in 2011 from highway accidents in the U.S. than in the American revolutionary war. This example of driving-related deaths to war-related deaths shows that uneducated and unsafe drivers can be more fatal than an actual war, that is why educating both new and experienced drivers on how to drive safely and educating them on the number and causes of driving-related deaths is so important.
A few ways to reduce the number of driving-related deaths are to never drive while distracted, do not drive over the speed limit, and educate drivers on the true number of driving-related deaths caused by these reasons. If more people know the statistics causes of driving-related deaths it can make them more mindful of how they drive. for example, if a person that participates in texting while driving is shown the reported number of confirmed deaths that are caused by texting and driving it can show them how dangerous the act truly is and even get them to stop doing it completely. There are many forms of distracted driving and unsafe driving, one unsafe driving habit is speeding. Speeding is not only illegal but also unsafe, we can help to decrease the number of people who speed by enforcing the speed limit in high speeding areas such as highways and back roads. Many of these dangerous acts happen because of the drivers being uneducated, the best way to educate drivers is by influence and representation. Having more commercials on every channel that show safe driving and educating the public on the number of driving-related deaths and what their causes will better influence people to drive safer.
I have never been in a car accident thankfully however, I have been close once or twice due to distracted driving. However, my cases are a little different from others. As a person with ADHD, I get easily distracted, and having my car be completely quiet only makes it worse. Because of this, I have had a few close calls from zoning out or checking my phone while driving. In order to correct this bad driving behavior, I like to listen to music at a reasonable volume and if the weather allows me to have my windows cracked I love listening to the sound of cars passing me. Somehow these tricks that others may call distracting actually help me to stay focused while driving. I have also seen my others drive unsafe as well, from speeding to distracted driving. I also have many friends who are not yet on the road and driving themselves and I always do my best to set an example for what a good and safe driver is like. In order to help influence my friends who do not drive yet I always try to set a good example for them by not using my phone or being distracted while I am driving. A few ways that I achieve this way of influencing them is by turning my phone on silent while I drive so that I do not hear any of the notifications that I may receive while on the road. Another way I free myself of any distractions while I drive with my younger friends is to always ask for silence when I need it in order to concentrate on what I am doing. I also make sure to mention to them that I absolutely do not text and drive no matter who the person may be and I back this up when they ride with me and I do not check my text messages at all until we safely reach our destination and have parking. I believe that doing these things especially when I am driving others can help to influence them when they do drive in the future and also for them to influence others they know. I do these things because I want to do my part to help reduce the number of deaths that happen due to unsafe driving and to help keep my friends and family safe on the road.
