Reducing Dangerous Driving Habits
Do you love your mother? What would you do if the person who gave you life were to pass away? What if I told you that’s the reality of many people today. Every year, approximately 11.7 million people are killed or hospitalized in vehicle collisions. Roughly 10,000 of them are attributable to reckless driving. These percentages and statistics are mind-boggling and, to be honest, frightening, so we must ask ourselves, “How can we assist in preventing this from happening?” First and foremost, we must all analyze the source of the issue, which is many people’s everyday risky driving actions. Road accidents have increased as a result of these reckless acts. When people engage in these destructive habits, they put the lives of those around them in jeopardy. These unhealthy habits include texting while driving, road rage, speeding, and alcohol misuse.
It starts with the kids! The greatest strategy to start lowering risky driving tendencies is to educate the youth in schools about the negative repercussions of driving recklessly and to include it into the curriculum to promote the well-being of the millennial population. Through presentations, workshops, and potentially even celebrity endorsements of car safety people may make a significant difference. Another approach towards reducing harmful driving habits is to station additional police officers along the sides of roads to enforce harsher traffic regulations and perhaps scale back speed limits in places where people tend to speed. People naturally do the right thing when they see officers, therefore having a lot more around will invariably improve traffic conditions.
Distracted driving is also a major issue that many individuals face. Texting while driving, eating food, or even turning around to check on their whining kids in the backseat are all examples of this. When driving on the road, all attention should be paid to the road and intricate tasks should be avoided. Despite the fact that this is a much greater issue with more difficult guidelines to implement, it is still feasible to keep it under control. My solution for preventing distracted driving would be to simply leverage technological advancements to implement a signal that would disallow people from receiving or sending cell texts while driving. I’d also establish an educational system in which children are taught in classes not to distract their guardians while driving because it can lead to serious consequences.
Finally, there is the dreadful problem of drinking and driving. This is, in my opinion, the most serious problem since it is the most difficult to govern. Drunk drivers typically risk large penalties, license suspension, and higher insurance costs if they are discovered driving under the influence. However, the only strategy for reducing this is to lock them in jail, rather than imposing penalties or even revoking their licenses. Instead, it would begin with a one-month prison sentence, as well as the revocation of their license and fines. Then people would be more afraid of drinking and driving due to the implemented regulation, and they will prefer not to do it. I also imagine that with advanced software and technology, automobiles would be able to detect whether a person is intoxicated, but that would take a long time to develop
All in all, citizens’ dangerous driving habits are the downfall of the millennium, killing and injuring countless people in the last year. Everyone is a part of the world’s change. We must all choose to be smarter and watch the road in order to make the world a better place. As a younger generation, we are the ones who must initiate change. Let’s make the world a better place, and it all starts with you.
