Importance of Driver’s Education

The education of drivers is an important matter because you need to be able to understand all the laws you are supposed to follow as a driver on the roads. You must be educated on how to be safe because you not only need to keep yourself safe you also have to keep everyone around you safe and know how to react to the way they are driving. Safety is the number 1 priority and if there is no professional teacher to help kids learn how to drive and break any bad habits it could make the roads very dangerous. If an accident happens drivers education will help you understand what to do. Driver’s education teaches you how to properly do the things you need to be able to do as a driver. Drivers Education teaches you when to use your lights in certain situations you may be in while you are on the road.

Distracted Driving is a very deadly killer in the United States. Most people that wreck are texting, messing with their radio, or are just not paying attention to the road in general. Stricter laws need to be in place to crack down on texting and driving. States that have the Hands free law are at the forefront of this movement and it is something that needs to be passed by all 50 states. Texting and driving is more common in teens and young adults but people of all ages do it. There needs to be more proactive steps by schools to make their students understand that you may think it is just one text but ultimately you may not realize that you are swerving. You should also have students encourage their parents to not text and drive. When you get into the vehicle put your phone on do not disturb and put it in the center console out of your reach so you are not tempted. Speeding is also a major killer. The speed limit is set to keep the people safe on the roads. Speeding enforcement is great and I believe there needs to be larger fines to discourage speeding even more. It takes everyone but if people start coming together to explain the dangers I believe that we can change the widely known ideology that speeding is okay when it’s really not. I believe the states that have the safe – Seat Belts Are For Everyone program are doing very well. Seatbelts save your life 99% of the time, it is very important to wear your seatbelt. Drowsy driving is another cause for traffic crashes. If you did not get enough sleep you do not need to be driving. If you are driving and you feel tired pull over and take a 15 minute power nap if you sleep longer it will make you worse. If you are traveling long distances you need to stop and take a break from driving every 2 hours to keep yourself from getting drowsy. Your reaction time is very important, if something happens in front of you you must be in the right mindset to react and make the split second decision on what to do.

I was once in a vehicle with a student during an FFA event and he was pulled over for going 70 in a 30 since then I no longer spend time with this person and I hear about how this person still drives recklessly. Every time I am around him, I always try to explain the potential consequences of what he is doing. My mom is a really bad texter while she is driving and I always have to remind her to put the phone down until we get where we are going. I have never been in a car accident myself. Drinking and driving is very common in the area where I live. I believe to better combat drunk driving is to set up dui checkpoints often instead of only a few times a year. Education is the best way to prevent traffic crashes because people are more aware of what can happen to them if they make the wrong decisions on the road.

I always make sure I have no distractions, I set the radio before I leave, and I am always alert and paying attention to how I am driving as well as the people driving around me. I will continue to explain and help make my friends and family understand they need to drive safer and be a model citizen and role model for others.
