What steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving?
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, there were a reported 1,600 deaths on the roadway. The numbers have continued to increase over the years. In 2018, there were 994 roadway deaths and 1,491 in 2019. Throughout history, the government has adopted different legislative proposals that eventually become laws of the land. These resolutions are created out of a need to combat problems arising within or against the United States of America. A few examples of legislation created to make a change in America include the “Three-Strikes” Law, “The War on Drugs”, “The War on Terrorism”, and many other instances that can be named throughout the history of this great country. To reduce the number of deaths related to driving, the Department of Driver Services should develop a systematic approach to educate and distribute licenses to drivers. To assist with this issue, I am proposing dismantling the structure the current structure of Department of Driver Services and its relation to the current structure of the judicial system. The process would include increasing the education level, positive oriented interactions all races and ethnicities, and improve the accountability level on both sides of the judicial system.
To reduce the number of deaths related to driving, the government should develop educational courses to increase the knowledge level of potential licensed drivers within the United States of America. The state mandated training course would be implemented by the Department of Driver Services. The training courses should be administered by a certified educator. The course should provide a PDF lesson plan to educate all drivers on the laws and regulations that are in accordance with operating a motor vehicle. The training course will include educating the citizen on how to interpret the meaning of various signs. The course will include educating the citizen on the basic road operation laws within their current state or residence. These steps will ensure the government has extended every opportunity to help educate drivers by providing any links to resources on how to find any additional information the citizen may inquire about.
To reduce the number of deaths related to driving, the next step in the government training courses from the Department of Driver Services will assist with the developing an opportunity to apply the knowledge. This phase will include mandating a minimum number of hours driven under supervision of a state certified Road Safety Administrator. The minimum should be increased from 40 hours to 100 hours. The number of hours driven at night should be keep the same rate, which is 15, when compared to the initial 40-hour standard previously required legally. A certified administrator will be responsible for supervising the practice test driving portion. After completion of the minimum number of hours, a certified Road Test Examiner will oversee the driving test. After passing the test, the citizen will be awarded a State Issued Driver’s License.
To reduce the number of deaths related to driving, the government will dismantle the structure of the judicial system and decide to assign jail time in exchange for fine payments when driving citations are given. The current structure of the judicial system allows driving citations to be held in a separate court. The municipal system is structure for fines to be paid after the citizen has been found guilty of the driving violation. Fines are only an advantage to people with money. To help enforce equality, fines should be eliminated from being a resource used within the structure of the municipal court regarding road safety violations. Eliminating jurisdiction of driving citations would leave a void in the current structure of the judicial system. My recommendation would be to assign jurisdiction to magistrate or superior court. The magistrate court should facilitate lesser crimes. Superior court should facilitate more dangerous crimes.
In conclusion, the number of deaths related to driving will slowly decrease. With citizens education level of road safety being administered by the governing body who will grant permission to accept owner of driver’s licenses, the Department of Driver Services can control the number of uneducated drivers on the road. The implementation of the required courses being administered by the Department of Driver services will ensure that every license driver within the United States of America will have a full understanding of the laws, regulations, and requirements necessary to operate a motor vehicle. The increased awareness of the licensed drivers within the United States of America will ensure that accountability is placed on the individual liable for damages. These changes will reduce the number of deaths related to driving, and the results will help create a better and safer America.
