Driving Safety
I used to watch my mother come home every day with back pain. Ever since the accident she just was not the same. She hurt and ached all the time, and it pained me to have to watch my mom suffer. Recently, my older sister got rear-ended. I had to watch her struggle to pay to fix her dream car and find a mode of transportation. Poor driving not only affects drivers, but families, friends, and communities. Consequently, therefore driver education and safety are so important and need to be heavily encouraged.
Over 34,000 people die a year due to driving-related incidents in the U.S. Many of these crashes can be easily prevented. People can obey traffic laws such as turning on the correct signals, heeding the traffic lights, and paying attention to the right of way rules. Also, being predictable can be immensely helpful to other drivers, for example, by stopping at stop signs, using turn signals, and being in the correct lanes. Additionally, avoid distractions like texting, eating, and talking on the phone, this can be extremely dangerous while driving and are some of the main causes of crashes. Further, do not use drugs or drink alcohol before or while driving. These are steps we can take to reduce the number of deaths related to driving.
I always ask my friends that drive or have cars do they have a license and most of them tell me no. These kinds of drivers are always prone to wrecks and accidents because they do not have a formal driving education. I always try to encourage them to get the proper training, go to the right classes, and go through the proper process to get a license to have a quality driver’s education and be safer while driving. I also make sure to remind others to reduce their distractions while driving (such as using the phone), especially while I am in the car. I make sure I motivate others to be safer drivers so we can have safer roads, fewer injuries, and fewer road rage-related incidents.
I know that to make our roads more secure, safe driving must start with me. I take many steps to make sure I am a better and safer driver. Firstly, I make sure that I memorize directions, turn on my music before I start driving, and turn my phone on do not disturb to reduce the number of distractions my phone can cause while driving. Furthermore, I make sure I use my signals every time I must turn or switch lanes. Additionally, I drive the speed limit and make sure that I pay attention to my surroundings while I drive. This allows me to have a safe driving experience, never get pulled over, and never be in any accidents.
Driving safely not only goes for drivers, but passengers as well. There are many ways to keep you and your driver protected while traveling. One way is to speak up if you see your driver getting distracted. Additionally, do not distract the driver, for example, do not show them things on your phone or start an argument with them. Also, stay alert and look out for things that your driver cannot see themselves. You can also help your driver by being the navigator or even flipping through the music. Do not block the driver’s view and use your indoor voice. Lastly, always make sure you buckle up, because many passengers die due to not wearing a seatbelt. Everyone who rides in a vehicle needs to know how to limit distractions and be better passengers. Having good passengers decreases your chance of getting into an accident, making it safer to drive.
As you can see, safe driving is extremely important not just for drivers, but for passengers and bystanders as well. It is important to drive safely because it can save lives, help you dodge paying fines, and avoid imprisonment. Reckless driving not only hurts drivers, but passengers, families, friends, and bystanders. Many crashes can be prevented just by using safe driving techniques. Encourage others to obtain a formal driving education and make sure who you are riding with has a license. Also, make sure you are practicing safe driving habits as well to not only protect yourselves, but to protect others around you. Make sure you are being a safe passenger and make sure you have safe passengers in your vehicle. If a passenger is not being safe and distracting you from driving let them know that it is not okay. If everyone adheres to safe driving techniques, then we can decrease driving related incidents and have safer roads.
