Just A Split Second

In the world today, a lot of humans spend time on the road. This is especially big for teenagers as they are able to get their driver’s license, starting at 15. They each feel a freedom not experienced before. In recent studies, they have found that 20% of teens at the age of 16 are more likely to get into an accident right after getting their license. This could be the case, since you are not a experienced driver. Our Society today is different then 20 years ago. It has changed from how we dress, to how people act, and many more. Due to that, these things can affect ones driving ways.

A way that can help to prevent distracted driving is by not having your cell phone out. Most humans get into the car and make sure their cellphone is in eyesight. By leaving your phone in your bag till you reach your destination could help. A few years ago, I needed to go run a few errands on my day off. Usually before I left I would plug my phone into the radio. On this day, I did not do this. Instead, while driving I tried to fix it. Taking place in this action, I had an accident that could have been prevented. When looking down for a split second, to fix my phone, a dog ran in my way. By the time I noticed, I couldn’t do anything. If I would have been responsible and did what I was supposed to from the beginning, I would have not put myself in this situation. This shows how it only takes a split second for accidents to take place.

Another issue that teens deal with is driving while distracted. When getting your license, you feel free to go where ever you want and with anybody. By having a lot of people in the car, you are less likely to pay close attention to your surroundings. An example of this would be, you and your close friends are on the way to the mall. While your driving, your friends are talking about all the latest things happening. One of them holds up a image to show the rest of the friends. Even though your driving, you don’t want to be left out so you turn to see what it is. In just that small time, an accident can take place. Being more focused on driving and not worrying about other things could have prevented this.

Every new driving individual should at some point take drivers education. The reason is because it teaches common sense, defensive driving, and judgment choices. The class time available allow them to see all the different conditions they may endure driving. A first time drive isn’t well aware of what they have to do when driving in rain, sleet, or snow. The result of this can led to dangerous accidents to themselves but also others. By learning these skills early on can prevent accidents from the future. During driving education, you are able to learn new material such as: road signs, lines on road, and driving tips. These life skills will help you to determine the speed limites on unfamiliar roads or how to parallel park on the street. Through multiple research it has been concluded that 75% of young adults that did not take drivers ed are more likely to get a ticket then someone who is not. They also concluded that 24% of the drivers are more likely to get into a accident. By making the time to take drivers education not only impacts young drivers lives but every other individual on the road.

Their is many different things that can be done to prevent distracted driving. The two I have chosen, were ones that were close to me. By leaving your phone in your bag and waiting to talk with your friends can change a situation. By taking the extra time to make sure you and others are safe does more then you know. If you want to be the best person you can and do what is right, take the time to do drivers ed. This gives you a chance to learn all the unique and helpful tips to keeping others save before you are released in the world. Even though you are a good driver that does not mean accidents can not still happen. One of the most important things is pay attention to your surroundings always. You would never want to be the reason some one is not able to go home to their family at night.
