Drivers Education Essay Contest

Drivers Education is a very important part of becoming a driver, without education people are less knowledgeable. Knowledge is power. You need to have complete power over your motor vehicle because motor vehicle accidents are very dangerous and can be fatal. Educating people on how to properly drive and making sure they absorb the knowledge through an examination is a great way to reduce the number of deaths that occur on the roadways.

You need to be taught the laws and basic mechanics before doing any dangerous task.

Laws are another way to prevent tragic accidents. Laws that officers enforce help to further reduce the number of car accidents. The speed limit, road signs, traffic lights, turning lanes, and bicycle lanes are very important to pay attention to. Police men will enforce laws regarding these things. The speed limit is very important to always abide by to save yourself from tickets or even worse injuring yourself or somebody else. Safely learning the laws can reduce the number of fatal accidents on roadways. The importance of this will find you if you break the law.

Many fatal accidents are caused by drivers under the influence or distracted drivers. Limiting the number of distractions by making texting and driving illegal is a good way to combat this problem. Heavy fines follow any driving under the influence, along with revocation of your driver’s license. This is a great way to eliminate the amount of dangerous drivers on the road. It is very important to avoid distractions while driving. Imagine someone else losing their life because you answered a silly text while driving, now imagine ignoring that text. It is best to obey the law when driving.

In my first wreck I was very young and my mother was driving. We were at an intersection and this diesel was turning left. We drove up to the intersection and as my mom hit the brakes to stop at the stop sign her tires just kept sliding. Her brakes failed. We slammed directly into the gas tank of that truck. My mom got the baby out of the front seat as fast as she could and me and my friend were out of the back seat very quickly. The car did not explode but my mother kept insisting that it could at any moment. We were shaken up so badly and rushed to the emergency room. My friend’s father was furious. My friend and I both probably gained drivers post traumatic stress that day. Now that I drive, I have had a few accidents myself. One time, I was driving my family in my murano and there was an oncoming diesel and a car driving down a long driveway coming to the road. When they did not slow down I began to worry. I hit my brakes and held tight to the steering wheel pushing their vehicle to the side because if I let them push me I would have been smacked into a diesel going 55 miles per hour. I was so scared and I had the strength to hold that wheel but the elderly couple in the other car was hurt very badly. The man hit his head and was bleeding and the woman broke a rib. The man was driving and couldn’t even tell the officers his name. They survived and continued driving that same crashed car! I did not get reimbursed for my car because they did not have insurance. Poor old folks, I felt sorry for them. But they really should have stopped at the end of their driveway. This taught me to be cautious because others just aren’t always going to be.

I do things to make the road safer because I want it to be safe for me. Being in several accidents myself makes me very conscious of my surroundings on the road. If I see danger I become more cautious. I try to be courteous and always stay in the slow lane if I am not in a hurry. When I am in a hurry, I am very careful to follow the speed limit and move over when someone is going faster than me. I do not get too close to the car in front of me. I do not like it when a car is too close behind me. When it’s raining the road can become slick. I never hit my brakes very hard if the road is wet because this can cause you to hydroplane. It happened to my mother. Her truck hit water on the road and she couldn’t control it after hitting her brakes. The truck she was driving was beautiful and it was totally destroyed. This made me cautious of weather conditions. I never drive on ice. Snow is not as dangerous but I would recommend avoiding driving in all hazardous weather. Drivers education, laws, and personal experiences help shape the drivers on the roadways into safer drivers. Let’s all do our part to make it safer by being cautious and courteous!
