What Does Safe Driving Mean?
The main task of driver’s education is to help teenagers comprehend the implications of driving a car young. The fact that we as people of the United States start young when teaching kids how to drive is meant to instill better habits when on the road. One of the main ways I’ve seen this is through understanding exactly how lethal incidents happen on the road, specifically with teenage drivers. While in high school, the Canyons District puts on a unit to highlight exactly what happens if driving is not taken seriously, and the consequences of those actions. Showing the tragedies which can change the course of life really makes an impact on people to make a change, whether it be driving or other issues such as the environmental well being of the community. Not only does driver education help through the application of real world events, it also prepares people for events that can happen to themselves and others. Every person is subject to the actions of drivers, even if they don’t drive, which requires experience to know how to function in the general environment around automobiles, not interrupting the flow of everyday life.
Several precautions can be taken to prevent future deaths from automobile accidents. One idea is to continue emphasizing the real importance of seat belts, and how they have protected people in the past. Not only that, the startling statistic of 43% of people dying in car crashes due to lack of restraining devices is very high relative to the fact that not wearing seat belts accounts for over nine thousand deaths in the United States every year. Even though it is well emphasized in driver’s education classes, it still helps to have constant reminders, whether it be on the signs on the road, or reminders from outside sources. Another way to prevent deaths related to driving would be to have parents teach good driving habits to kids early, to prevent future mistakes or wrongdoings. Almost everything used on the road is obtained from subconscious knowledge from watching an adult drive, even if the adult isn’t aware of their bad driving habits. Making and correcting bad driving habits in adults can greatly influence that of the younger community, even with just subtle gestures. The third example of a way to reduce the number of deaths is to put even more surveillance options within the cars themselves. For instance, the drivers education program installs an extra brake within the passenger seat in order to prevent damage to others while maximizing the learning potential. This would be extremely helpful for those looking to guide younger drivers while they are still learning. Other features would include automatic braking, which is being implemented in some forms of automobiles at the current moment, and backup cameras, which are extremely helpful for smaller, less dangerous tasks. All of these innovations can make it safer and easier for not only teenagers, but for adults as well.
From personal experience, I have not been in a crash where anyone has been seriously injured or caused any lasting damage to any property. However, I have been in several incidents where the driver was irresponsible and caused property damage. An example of this is when I was in the car with my brother, when I was unable to drive, and he damaged the tire axle going over a curb. Despite the lack of damage, it was still frightening to consider driving in a car that had the ability to wreck other items, or, with a lack of maintence, could go fall into a dangerous state, hurting those who were in the car. The simple mistakes people make, such as drinking water or making a call, can have serious repercussions on everyone involved on the road, not just the person driving or anyone in the cars around either. This is why I would dread to hear my family or friends get into an accident, because of what is normally implied with the news of a wreck, which is injury or disfunctional circumstances.
The way I constantly limit distractions on the road is by not driving in the first place. I tend to get around pretty easily within my area by running, rather than driving to close-by areas. This helps me be aware of how pedestrians think and act, making it easier for me to make decisions on the road benefitting those who are not. Another way I personally make the road safer is through getting everything situated before I start travelling. This extends to eating before I start the car, making sure I don’t need to use the bathroom, or making sure my playlist is set up so I don’t have to worry about it while driving. Doing this makes me feel better about focusing on the road, and is applicable to most distractions. The final thing I do personally to make my car safer is being selective about the people who are in my car at one time.If there was a group or an amount of people that I know I couldn’t drive with, I would start organizing something else, or make sure the people in the car are aware that I prefer to drive without a heavy amount of distractions from inside the car. Doing this allows me to teach my good driving habits to others, as well as creating a safe environment for the people in the car.
All of these are ways I feel make me safer while driving, and can be applicable to most people who are proactive enough to situate themselves in a good position. Although, some things may work better than others, and not every situation is avoidable. The best options are to make everything easy to consider beforehand before the situation that can effect others lives can ever be possible.
