Steer into the right direction
Losing someone is a heart wrenching tragedy but it’s even more harsh is that moment of realization knowing that the death could have been preventable. The average of 34,000 people who die in a fatal car crash can be stopped and the numbers can reduce drastically. Drivers Ed is so easily accessible and is such a good way to help educate drivers about the rules and regulations of driving. The more you know the rules the easier it is to follow them but sadly some states do not enforce a lot of safety precautions to ensure that their drivers know all the rules and that is why making drivers education more important and more focused on will help reduce the number of lives taken every day. There are some easy things regular citizens can do to inform and take action to prevent more car crashes from occurring, such as making drivers ed more fun and making it seem like more of a positive thing instead of a time consuming and negative, I remember when I was doing my drivers education with Aceable I genuinely enjoyed it since it was very interactive and it was funny but many people don’t know that drivers ed can be fun. So one tiny step we can take is making drivers ed seem as fun as it is, we can recommend the programs that were enjoyable. For example I told my friends about Aceable and they used Aceable as well, and didn’t find it all too bad. Another step that can be helpful is spreading more information about safe driving, making posters and putting them around school or even on roads might remind people to drive safer and be more precautious.
I myself have thankfully never been in a car accident but I have sadly had family and friends who have gotten in one, I used to naively think that getting in a car accident was like getting a shot, the first time you get a vaccine it’s terrifying but after you have received some more you realize it’s not as bad as it’s portrayed to be, this faulty logic of mine was so incorrect of many levels. I didn’t realize there were different severity of crashes and some could end in a scratch and others could end in a person being dead, this scary truth makes me realize I’m so grateful that none of my family and friends have gotten in very bad wrecks. A car wreck that really made me contemplate the consequences of driving irresponsibly was when my mom and brother got in a wreck, it wasn’t a bad accident but it was one regardless. If my brother had been sitting in the back seat he would’ve surely broken a bone or two but thankfully he was sitting in the front with his seatbelt on, since my brother is a very big role model for me, seeing how he would’ve probably had to give up playing his favorite sports and maybe even need things doing things that we do on a daily basis made me realize the importance of driving safely and I was more grateful for drivers ed even though it had a bad rep. And recently on a major highway near where I live, there were two accidents that had unfortunately taken lives. These two wrecks served as a wake up call to drive safer not only to me but I’m sure to many of the people living around the area. In the more fatal accident, a 4 year old was killed not only because the driver was on their phone but also because the 4 year old was buckled in her safety seat, this kind of irresponsible behavior leads to a lifetime of regret, leaving the driver’s conscience wishing they had done something to prevent taking the life of a 4 year old. Another wreck involved a 19 year old losing her life because she was speeding and rumored to be on her phone at the time.
That being said, some steps I take to be a safe driver is I always set my music, and everything I need before I start driving. While I was still doing Aceable I read that even fidgeting with your car screen can make you very likely to get into a crash. To me that was such a scary fact because I know so many people who mess with their car screens while driving to change playlists or change the radio. Thankfully Aceable taught me to set everything up so I can be a safe driver and since I learned about that horrifying fact I have told mostly all of those people about the way a car screen can change lives in a negative way.
