Safe Driving Saves Lifes
As i have been a driver who has been driving since I was 16, I have seen a lot of dangerous things while driving and being on the road. How can people reduce death while driving? That is the ongoing question that is being asked on the daily. An average of 34,000 people die each year as a result of driving recklessly or others driving recklessly on the roads. This can be prevented in many ways by simply being more cautious on the roads . Even though you are only responsible for yourself, one must also watch out for other drivers on the roads.
One of the main reasons for deaths in motor vehicles are DUIs. Driving under the influence has made a serious impact on deaths all over the world. There are many ways that this alone can be changed. One is simply just not to drink, drinking is a big problem in America and some people think they have enough control over themselves to drive just because they “feel okay”. My advice for anyone who may be under the influence of alcohol is to never go off of how you feel in the moment. Even if you feel okay at the time your body can change overtime causing you to get fatigued or blank out. Another way to prevent this is having a designated driver or calling a mobile transportation service such as a Lyft,Uber ect. There were over ten thousand fatalities caused in twenty-twenty two due to driving under the influence. This could help save your life and someone else’s, remember everything is not always what it would seem to be.
Driving is a privilege that comes with a great sense of responsibility. Whenever we are to get behind the wheel, we are in control of nearly everything that takes place inside of the vehicle, and it is our job to ensure the safety of ourselves and others on the road. However, not everyone will take this as seriously as the next person. This brings me back to my point of not only having to drive for you but having to drive for others. My mother always would tell me “you have to drive for other people too” and I never really understood what that meant until now. Not everyone on the road is going to have the mindset that you have, some people will exceed the speed limit, serve in and out of lanes constantly and many other things that could put you and themselves in great danger. This is what it means to watch out for others on the road, making sure that you don’t collide with them or get in their way.
Wearing a seatbelt is very important and should be done almost as an instinct when getting inside a motor vehicle. Wearing a seatbelt actually saved my life. One day as my mother and I were riding through slow moving traffic out of nowhere a truck had hit us from the back. Luckily, I had on my seatbelt because it saved me from nearly going through the windshield that day. Because of the heavy impact the hit had on me I was jerked up out of my seat. Good thing i was wearing my seatbelt because had i not been this could have ended up worse than it was. Gladly, no one was hurt and there were minor damages made to the vehicle that we were in. It is always so important to make sure you have on your seatbelt BEFORE the vehicle takes off because accidents could happen as quick as you getting into your car and pulling off as someone hits you from the side.
Lastly, one of the most important things to be aware of while driving is to not use a cellphone. Using any type of electronics can be very dangerous while operating a vehicle. It takes your attention off of the road and puts more focus on your phone, tablet or any electronic device that you may have at that time. A good thing about newer modeled cars is that they have options in your car that allows you to answer your phone or send a text message without even taking your hands off of the wheel. I think this is really helpful and a good way in keeping people safe, because is looking at a text message really worth your life or someone else’s?
Overall, getting a driver’s education is extremely beneficial for anyone who wants to learn how to drive because it teaches the correct skills and requirements needed before one is to get on the road by themselves, all the fundamentals are given. Following basic rules like driving sober, wearing your seatbelt, and not using an electronic device are a must in order to maintain safe roads for everyone. Most importantly, practice safe driving and encourage others as well in order to reduce the number of accidents and deaths as a result of driving.
