Drivers Ed Essay

So why is driver education so important for reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving? Well, firstly, it helps to give young drivers knowledge about certain risky behaviors while driving. Driver education programs have a strong emphasis on eliminating risky behaviors, including speeding, texting while driving, and driving while intoxicated. So if students are made aware of the risks early, they are way less likely to engage in these practices. Along with that, driver education also helps young drivers make better decisions on the road. Those who enroll in driver education programs gain insight into making rational choices while operating a vehicle. To prevent mishaps, students learn how to evaluate the environment they are in and respond accordingly. Driver education also helps in teaching students about different road hazards they may come across, for example, how to recognize and steer clear of potential road dangers like potholes, debris, and severe weather. Another important aspect of driving education is that it helps students create safe driving habits. Students who take driver education classes leave with the skills and knowledge they need to form safe driving practices. These habits involve complying with the law and traffic signs, using a seatbelt, driving at an appropriate speed, and avoiding getting distracted while driving. Finally, if the situation were to occur, they would also prepare you ahead of time on how to deal with different car related emergencies, such as accidents, medical emergencies, and vehicle breakdowns. The risk of harm or death can be reduced if drivers are prepared for these circumstances. So again, driver education is essential for lowering the number of traffic-related fatalities. Driver education can save lives on the road by giving students the knowledge and abilities they need to create safe driving habits, make informed decisions, avoid dangerous behaviors, raise awareness of road hazards, and be ready for emergencies.

Some steps that I believe need to be taken in order to reduce the number of driving deaths are, firstly, continuing to increase awareness of the subject among students and adults. Governments and organizations must spread the word about the necessity of using seatbelts, the risks associated with driving while intoxicated, and other important topics. Public service announcements, advertisements, and educational programs can all be used to accomplish this. Another step that can be taken is to improve the roads. The infrastructure of the roadways can be improved by the government to make them safer for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. This entails putting in more traffic lights, crosswalks, and pedestrian overpasses, as well as enhancing street lighting and fixing potholes and other hazards on the road. Now, this step is already underway, but I feel like car manufacturers should continue implementing new technology into cars. This technology can include lane departure warning systems, forward collision warning systems, and automatic emergency braking systems. Even today,we see that this technology isn’t perfect, as there have been many issues with the Tesla automated driving system, but I feel like if technology like that can continue to be updated and improved, then it will no doubt lead to fewer driving related deaths. Another possible solution that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving could be stricter traffic laws. This contains regulations pertaining to seatbelt use, speeding, intoxicated driving, and distracted driving.

Luckily for me, I have always been surrounded by a great environment, and I have never seen my parents or other family members drive under the influence or irresponsibly. Now I’m currently 19 years old, and I’ve had my license for about 3 years now, and fortunately I’ve only been in one minor accident in a parking lot where I scratched the front of my car, but luckily no one was hurt. I already pride myself on being a safe driver, but some steps I feel I can take to be a better and safer driver, as well as help others become safer on the road, are, firstly, to continue to always wear my seatbelt. It is one of the simplest and best ways to protect oneself when driving, and I can urge other drivers to do the same. Another way I can continue to be a safer and better driver is to continue obeying and following traffic laws. This includes, staying under the speed limit, and following the traffic signals on the road. Another important thing I do, which I feel is a huge problem, especially in my generation, is avoid distractions while driving. I know so many people that have no problem texting and driving or simply being on their phone period while driving, but for me personally, I could never get into that habit because I know how dangerous that could be, especially if I have other passengers in my car with me. To me, all of these simple steps are essential to being a safe driver on the road and following them could save a life.
