Criticality of Driver’s Education

Driver’s education is crucially important in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving. Through driver’s education, students are made aware or reminded of the rules and importance of following them when driving. For some students, they are not aware of some driving laws and rules until they participate in a driver’s education class. In addition, many driver’s education courses give real life stories and examples of what has happened when the proper precautions were not taken by drivers. These examples and stories stick with a student. In my experience with driver’s education, I can say that I have not soon forgotten the stories of the family whose children died after getting hit by a distracted driver or the elderly women whose beloved dog was killed by a preoccupied driver. As a driver, these examples have stuck with me and quickly come to my mind at the thought of distracted driving. Not only does driver’s education tell you what it is important not to do, it gives lots of helpful information on what to do. Driver’s education is helpful in not only explaining rules and laws, but giving advice when it comes to topics such as driving when you are too tired. Information empowers people. When people are informed of the right thing to do they are much more likely and capable of making the right decision. By equipping young, beginning drivers with education and information, driver’s education courses make the roads a safer place.

In order to prevent deaths related to driving, all drivers should be required to take some kind of educational class that outlines what you should and should not do when driving and the consequences that can follow when you do not do what you’re supposed to. The majority of states have laws regarding this already and many drivers have already participated in these kinds of classes. However, in many states, these classes are no longer required once the prospective driver reaches a certain age. I think they should be required no matter what age the driver is when they get their license. Driver’s education classes should also be available, accessible, and affordable to all people. In addition to the classes you take when first trying to obtain your driver’s license, there should also be shortened versions of these classes every several years to remind drivers of the importance of safe and responsible driving. These classes should include personal testimonies from individuals whose lives have been drastically altered due to driving accidents. It is important for drivers to see these testimonies and put themselves in the shoes of others to see how much their driving truly affects others. It is also important to note that while these classes can help tremendously, it is ultimately up to us as drivers, passengers, friends, and family members to practice and encourage safe driving in order to avoid deaths due to driving.

While I have never been in a car accident myself, I have seen family members driving irresponsibly. It is not a fun experience or one that I would want anyone to have to experience. As someone who cares deeply for the person driving, I tried to encourage them to really think about what they are doing and asked them to stop. It is important for us to realize the danger that we not only put ourselves, but others as well, at when we drive irresponsibly. Even though it may be uncomfortable, it is our job to call out someone who is driving irresponsibly. We should do so in a kind and polite way, but also make sure that whoever we are with is driving responsibly. Driving is very serious and can have very serious consequences when done irresponsibly. It is not something that should be taken lightly.

To become a safer and better driver, I can take steps such as making sure all distractions are turned off or put away before driving. I can be a defensive driver and make sure I am ready to react safely to any situation that may arise. I can spread awareness to those around me about the potential consequences of driving irresponsibly. I can do everything in my power to make the roads a safer place. In addition, I can encourage the drivers around me to do what is necessary to ensure they are driving safely and responsibly. I can remind them of the potential dangers and consequences that can occur when driving irresponsibly. To conclude, I want to do everything in my power to make the roads safer for everyone involved.
