Driving Awareness In Society

The importance of driving education to prevent car accidents and potential deaths is quite simple in the premise of the idea. On average 34,000 people die each year due to driving and having an instructor greatly reduces this amount already as the number could definitely be much greater. If driving was able to be done without a test or practice our world would be filled with plenty of headlines detailing numerous amounts of ill-fated demises every single day. Most deaths are not intentional, as they come from simple accidents or unwise decisions that were quickly made. With driving education common mistakes can be replaced with refined plus tuned processes when operating behind the wheel, as practice makes perfect for anybody no matter who you are and how many hours you have driving a vehicle. A common rule to demonstrate this is the well known 10,000 hour rule which says to master a skill you need to perform it for 10,000 hours or more to do so. To accomplish this what needs to be done more in order to reduce driving-related deaths I have a few possible ideas that may be applicable. An increase in time required in order to obtain a driving license could see the number be reduced, more in person testing with an instructor plus observation time, or maybe even the use of virtual reality equipment could be beneficial as it increases one’s practice time. Optimistically with technological innovation I could see some new inventions being used to train new drivers to better prepare for real world situations. I mentioned virtual reality as a possibility and improvements in that area could be a real spot for learning growth as the uniqueness of it could outweigh the effectiveness of any other method currently present. Which again is the main problem I want to tackle is having more practice to enhance comfortability and readiness for any situation a driver may be presented with when traveling the countless roads a driver does on a daily basis. If that is done I see no reason why accidents would not drop rapidly. I believe what is taught online or through in person teaching does an adequate job at presenting people with necessary knowledge needed before the use of a vehicle. It is just actually being behind the wheel of a vehicle that has no replications possible as of now. Especially when as people we learn best through hands-on experience rather than just reading, hearing, or visualizing about what to do in a given context. Next, With personal accounts I am incredibly thankful, I have never witnessed or been in a car related mishap, but have heard from friends along with family who have been in car crashes or accidents. They stated how terrible and absolutely scarring the experience was for them to have to be in or observe, always telling their story with shame or fear in their voice when recounting the story. Almost all have some regret on a decision wishing they did something as simple as look right or left one more time, not toyed with their phone while driving, slowed down a little more, and so on. Outside of my school there is a bench dedicated to a previous student who tragically passed away from a drunk driver, a constant reminder of my mortality plus the dangers the roads present. I have learned from their experience to make sure I am always on high alert, do not be distracted, have all eyes on the road, and to predict to my best ability what others are thinking and going to do. In fact according to studies, the number one cause of car accidents is distracted driving. I try to remind others and myself one mistake could potentially be mine or anothers last. It is grim to mention, but unfortunately true when it comes to using a vehicle. The invention of vehicles is certainly a blessing as well as a dreadful curse in a plentiful quantity of ways. I hope in the near future, not only for me, but future generations that my younger brother is a part of, the number of car accidents decreases drastically and the roads become much less stressful, easier to navigate, and overall safer as they should be in our world. Worrying and some anxiety I am aware is inevitable, although the amount being as high as it is today for people is most unacceptable and striving for safety should without a doubt be a top priority around the world for citizens.
