Night that changed my life.

The importance of reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving is understanding it can only take one accident and you could be gone.I do not think kids and adults understand you can walk away from a accident or it can change your life forever. You can not take it back or say I will not do that next time because there might not be a next time.I believe the steps that would help reduce the deaths related to driving is teaching more about it for example, wearing a seat belt, wearing one and not wearing one could be a life changer,it could decide whether you live or die.Along with seat belts they could teach about the safety things, to do and what not to do while driving at schools or have media post.Teaching how it could change your life and someone’s else’s life forever,Also putting a feature on teens who drive or who is just starting to drive which restricts them from being on there phone. The parents could teach them and be a role model while they drive them places as they grow up.I think if the guardian of the kid modeled how to be safe it would prevent some accidents and they would be a little safer.Along with role models kids should be informed on accidents as they grow up being told why the accident happened and maybe they will realize you can not always walk away from a accdient.I actually was in a drunk driving accident when I was about 14 years old.The sad part is there was only one car in the accident which meant I was in the car with the drunk driver. As june rolled around in 2014 my sister, brother, mother and myself were coming home from my grandmas as we did every night. My father had drove himself home that night since he was working late at the farm across from my grandmas. We had left around 10:40 pm on a wednesday night ,as we took the same route every night we came around the turn and it was like my mother was unresposne. As we headed straight for a tree I yelled and braced for impact, the next thing I hear is the horn going off nonstop,we had hit the tree dead center going about 45 mph.I jumped out and grabbed my brother of three and sister of nine.I was traumatized, the cops had came and I thought that was the end for my mother. She had been drinking and driving,at that time in my life I had no clue what that could do to a person. We had all went home that night including my mother somehow,I was banged up with cuts and bruises. My sibling were also banged up as well, that night Icould barely sleep I was up all night thinking what just happened and how did it even happen.I was never taught about it in my school and truly did not know the number of driving related deaths was so high. After the accident I learned what had happened and thought why would someone do that,to put there own family at risk.To this day I am so thankful I walked away from that accident. It is scary to think that I almost did not or there was a chance I was not. From that day I learned about what happened I never stepped a foot in a car with a person who had a sip of alcohol again,I have always been there to drive anyone who drank. The steps I have taken to be a safer driver is when I drive people or go with someone who is driving,I make sure everyone is buckled and I put my phone in a stop I can not grab to look at it.If someone else is driver and looking at there phone I ask them to not or I ask to hold their phone,or answer if needed.I also offer to drive anyone who has drank any alcohol or find someone who can drive them because no one should put themselves or other peoples lives at risk.Along with offering people rides I text my friends when they leave to not look at there phone and to only text when they get home or if they are pulled over and is not driving.I do my best to participate in my schools actives they do to help teach the importance of safe driving. We even go to the elementary school and teach them,we do activates which I think helps them learn and comprehend what we are talking about.I try my best to spread my story and how it changed my life and I try to teach other people the importance of safe driving.
