Protecting The World’s Roads

Driving is a privilege that is enjoyed by many in our society. Driving is a private, fast, and accessible form of transportation. Yet, with this convenience comes with great risk. Cars are dangerous machines that can injure or kill a human being in a split second. It is important that every driver on the roads remember that fact. Drivers need to be educated about danger, reminded about laws and safety regulations, and informed about the consequences of reckless driving. Building a safe, responsible driver begins in drivers’ education, continues in lessons with close ones, and never stops if they are behind a vehicle. Driving is a helpful privilege, but also one of the most dangerous and life-threatening things a person can do.

Drivers’ education is extremely important in reducing the number of deaths. Drivers’ education teaches students how to operate a car, describe what exactly the driver should be doing to best get the car moving in the most efficient and safe way. This is extremely helpful to creating safe and responsible drivers that know the best way to use the vehicle. Drivers’ education doesn’t only teach the basics of driving, but it also introduces the driver to all the rules and regulations of the road. To pass drivers’ education, the driver must be able to remember all the signs they may see, along with the meaning of each. They must also memorize potential scenarios, along with the consequences of what will happen if they act incorrectly in these scenarios. An essential part to drivers’ education is teaching consequences. Students that see the reality of their irresponsible actions will be less likely to operate the vehicle in a dangerous way. Drivers’ education shows students how to operate a vehicle, how to use the road, and the consequences of ignoring both. This is the first and most effective step to reducing the number of deaths on the road.

A part of being a driver is watching out for others that are taking the road. This means several things. This means keeping an eye out while you drive for potential problem drivers and avoiding that vehicle to keep yourself safe. As a driver, you must also look out for fellow drivers outside the road. One of the biggest causes of death on the road is driving under the influence. This may be alcohol or drugs such as marijuana. It is important to speak up if you know that someone is drunk and attempting to get behind the wheel. Preventing fellow drivers from getting on the road while under the influence or tired is important to not only protecting yourself, or them, but everyone else that may be driving. Personally, I have witnessed friends and family driving irresponsibly, or driving under the influence. This has resulted in accidents and injury to them. I have seen from experience the consequences of not watching out for the other drivers around you. Being aware and caring for your fellow driver is yet another massive step in protecting everyone on the road.

Another step to keeping the roads safe is keeping a cool head and making good decisions. Driving can be extremely stressful and may lead the driver to be on edge at times. While this is human nature, it is important for drivers to try to maintain a cool head. Stressful driving leads to reckless decisions. For example, if someone on edge were to miss an exit, they would be tempted to cut across multiple lanes and solid lines to make it. Someone unable to merge may feel stressed and try to cut their way in without looking. Someone frustrated with the speed of traffic may attempt to use the shoulder to pass other drivers. Driving will be a stressful and frustrating activity at times, but each driver must keep a cool head and make good decisions. Letting these feelings get the most of you will lead to injury and death. Being a good decision maker is yet another important step for keeping yourself and others alive.

Car accidents are one of the most common forms of death today. This comes from the number of cars that are trying to get from one place to another quickly, while ignoring the steps to keeping everyone safe. By understanding the rules of car operation, road rules, and the consequences, drivers will be more likely to keep the roads protected. By looking out for other drivers, people will be able to better keep themselves, their loved ones, and strangers safe. Finally, by keeping a cool head and not reacting to emotions, drivers will make good decisions and make sure that everyone gets where they are going safely. Driving can be made more safe through understanding, consideration, and smart decision making.
