Driving Sometimes Cost

3,700 people. Every day, 3,700 people are killed in car accidents. It could stem from a number of issues such as drunk driving, texting while driving, not following traffic rules and laws, and many other things, although the problem still remains, people are constantly dying in automotive vehicles and the numbers are steadily increasing. This is where safe driving comes in. The root of all these accidents is because either one or both parties are not being safe and responsible drivers. Before anyone can gain a license, they must take a driver’s education course and a driver behind the wheel class. With these two classes, they learn how to be a responsible driver that is not only to keep themselves safe but others on the road safe as well. These accidents all but more stress the importance of having driver education courses and classes. Although, this is the first of many steps to reduce the number of accidents. Another step that could be taken to reduce the number of accidents to enforce the rules of the road more often than we do now. For people who go over the speed limit, run red lights, or even drive recklessly, they usually get off with a fine or a ticket that they have to pay back, which usually isn’t too much. It doesn’t give much incentive for these people to stop their reckless driving behavior and will continue to do so if they can continue to get away with minor consequences or slaps on the wrist. One way to enforce the rules of the road is to potentially raise the fine that these reckless drivers have to pay. Once they realize that the fine is higher and realize how much money it cost them, it will more than likely deter them from trying it again. Another way that we could enforce the rules of the road would be through more serious consequences. Driving a car is a privilege and one that could take away someone’s life. Being tried in court or rather just a couple of days in jail could potentially deter further reckless drivers from engaging in that type of activity. The reason I’m so passionate about this is that my mother had gotten into a car accident due to the fact that a truck had ran a red light and slammed straight into the side of my mother’s car. Thankfully, she survived and didn’t suffer too much damage but it still cause her to react poorly whenever she gets into a car or if we stop suddenly. It is scary to think about how on the road people have no concern to the people that a driving with them or close them and only care about themselves and the destination they are going to, nothing more and nothing less. I want to become a safer driver not only because of that reason but also to keep others safe as well. If I can become a safe driver, I am able to reduce the number of car accidents that happen and reduce the number of people that die in vehicle accidents. Although, there’s many steps to start becoming a safe driver. One step on that road to safe driving is to follow the speed limit. It’s normally OK to only go over 5 miles over the speed limit but most times, people ignore the speed limit altogether and sometimes go 20 to 30 miles over the posted speed limit. If I’m able to follow the speed limit appropriately, then I’ll be able to keep others safe and not cause any more lives to be potentially lost. Another step I could take to become a more safe driver for others to offer carpools for people are are too intoxicated or rather unable to drive. If we allow these types of people to get behind the wheel, they are danger to not only the people around them but themselves as well. It is said that every day, about 37 intoxicated people die in crashes, which roughly equates to a person dying every 39 minutes. That’s a lot of people dying in one day. If I was able to offer these types of people a ride, they could either decline or accept but if they were to decline, I would let the local police station know that they are some intoxicated people nearby and that they needed a ride home. All in all, it is hard to be a safe driver but we can make it work if we all apply ourselves to it.
