The importance of learning the dangers of driving

Driving is one thing every teen desires to do. They want to get behind a wheel, and go where they please. They receive a license and automatically assume that they are great drivers. However, anybody can drive a car. You have to know if you’re personally ready to get in the car and be an attentive and offensive driver. You may think you can drive, when half of the people on the road really can’t. You have to pay attention to reckless drivers, kids crossing the street, deers hopping out, etc. You have to be ready for any possible thing that could happen while driving.

During covid I feel as though licenses were just handed out to anybody. All you had to do was go show a log that could have been forged, and you went about your day with a little card that gave you permission to drive yourself. No test was needed to determine if you were ready to drive, and nobody educated you behind the wheel; unless done at home. I was one of those individuals who just got handed a license, and yes I was happy. However, at the same time I knew that I was not quite ready to drive, and I waited awhile and continued learning before I actually went on highways and drove around a lot of cars.

As a result of me being patient and getting a further education in driving, when I actually got out onto the road I felt more prepared. I understood a lot of things on the road that I had not previously. I feel as though it is important for everybody to receive driver’s education because everybody needs to know the rules of the road. Not only that but they need to know that just because these rules are in place not everybody follows them. Just because a light turns green doesn’t mean just speed through the light because the person to the right of you might just feel like running a red. Knowing information such as this can help prevent the number of deaths related to driving because you are now not only just driving but you’re paying attention, and actually applying your knowledge to the road.

A few steps that can be taken to reduce the number of driving deaths include waiting until you’re ready. Everybody will get there time to drive , there is no rush. Learn from your family and friends some tips and drive with them to make sure you feel comfortable. Another thing is no texting and driving. Driving is one thing that looking away for one second can cost you your life. Especially at younger ages it’s hard to resist the urge of picking up your phone, but you have to think about the risk at hand. Furthermore, obey signs and lights. They are not there for a suggestion, they are for your safety . Disobeying things such as that is not only putting your life in danger but others as well. Lastly, wear a seatbelt; one of the easiest things to do while driving. Encourage your friends and family to do all these things so they can remain safe drivers as well.

I have been in one accident in my life. This was not a serious accident and it involved me and a family of deers. I was approaching a stop sign, therefore I was already slowing down. However, out in front of me two deer ran out; once seeing this I immediately slammed on the brakes. Before the car could come to a complete stop about 4 more deers ran across but one stopped right in front of my vehicle. I’ve learned that when handling deers you should not swerve, or blaze your horn because you are putting other cars at risk. I hit the deer upon stopping and my hood and lights were messed up. Thankfully me, my friends, and the deer were all alright. Just that little collision had me screaming and scared, so I can imagine a serious accident and I never want to experience one.

While driving in cars with family and friends I have seen that a lot of them have road rage. I have seen them cut off other drivers out of spite, and get angry while driving and start speeding. Furthermore, I have seen my friends racing other cars for fun and swerving in and out of traffic as though it’s okay. Steps that I can take to help others be safer on the road is letting them know when they are being unsafe, and telling them that it is not okay. Also I can inform them on if doing these things are worth their own life or the life of others in the car. I can take steps to become a better and safer driver by making sure I am not speeding , try not to be distracted by anything , and make sure I am paying attention at all times.

In conclusion, knowing the dangers of drivers can one day save your life. People in this world die everyday behind the wheel and you should try to do everything in your capability to make sure you’re not one of them , or you’re not the cause of an accident.
