The Killers: Irresponsible drivers

They are fast. They are reckless. They are killers. Unfortunately,
this describes every irresponsible driver on the road, because they
cause thousands of deaths each year. Yet, so many deaths could be
avoided. When drivers are educated, which will show them how to avoid
accidents, the police more heavily enforce driving laws, and I do my
part, automobile accidents and deaths, like the one my friend was
almost in, will be avoided and lives can be saved.

The first thing
to understand about saving lives is that drivers ed is
critical, because it teaches new drivers how to drive defensively,
avoid accidents, and reduce the severity of an accident if it is
unavoidable. When all the drivers are armed with this valuable
education, the roads can be much safer, because everyone will know
how to drive defensively and safely. Thus, drivers ed is
critical to reduce the number of deaths as a result of driving.

Because driver
education is so critical, one of the steps that can be taken to
reduce deaths on the road is to require that all drivers take drivers
education before they can be licensed. This will ensure that all
drivers have been taught how to avoid accidents. Another step that
should be taken is for the police to more heavily reinforce driving
laws, so that people feel compelled to obey them. These steps will
help reduced the number of deaths that occur from driving accidents.

While I
fortunately have never been in a driving accident, I have seen a
friend of mine drive irresponsibly. He was leaving school and he
pulled out of the parking as a car was approaching quickly on the
road. There was a loud screech of tires as my friend hit the
accelerator to get onto the road before the oncoming car. He was
nearly hit. This was a dangerous situation and it could have been
avoided if my friend had been driving more responsibly.

It’s not only
my friends who are guilty of irresponsible driving, but I can also do
several things to become a more responsible driver. For instance, I
can turn my phone off while driving, so that there is no chance of me
getting distracted by it. I can also help my friends become better
drivers by never texting or calling them when I know they are
driving. By taking these actions, I can certainly become a better
driver and help others do the same.

In order to
reduce the number of deaths on the road, people need to have a good
drivers ed, because it teaches them how to avoid accidents.
The police can also help by heavily enforcing the driving laws. This
will greatly reduce fatal accidents, like the one my friend was
almost in. Furthermore, I can work on becoming a more responsible
driver and help others do the same. With all of these efforts, the
roads can be purged of a majority of the killers: irresponsible
drivers.
