There are an exceedingly to many people, primarily teenagers,
purloined from us too early because of death correlated with driving.
Traffic crashes and car-related crashes are the leading cause of
mortality for teens. Teens need to be informed that being the person
behind the wheel is a significant responsibility. They are not
experienced yet, and often fail to pay attention to others on the
road. Many times teens think of a car as being a toy, yet they don’t
know how dangerous it can be. So how do they learn to take driving
seriously?
This
is the primary reason that drivers ed programs are a need for
students. Drivers ed teaches to have safer habits while
driving, gives them more experience behind the wheel with a seasoned
driver in the passenger seat, and allows them to learn and understand
the laws of driving. If all teens were required to do a driver’s
education course, there would be a better knowledge of how to be safe
while driving. By taking action and doing drivers ed, the
number of deaths related to driving will plummet. Any person who is
behind the wheel needs to understand their responsibility and what
they are putting at risk when they sit behind the wheel and drive
unsafely.
Though
I have not been in a major car crash yet, I have family members who
have. My mother and sister were t-boned on a gravel road one day on
their way to school. Thankful no one was hurt in the accident. My
mother’s car was totaled, but the accident was ruled a no-fault due
to the high corn that allowed neither driver to see each other. This
showed my whole family a lesson. That lesson is to always be safe
responsible while driving. Had my mother been driving faster or
recklessly, who knows her and my sister may not have been here today.
So there are many steps to avoid an accident and be a safer driver.
Even though in my mother’s case the accident was a no-fault, they
happen. But they can be avoided and can be less deadly.
So
what steps should you take? Well, the most obvious step is to do
drivers ed. Secondly, parents should always lead by example
when it comes to good driving habits. Teens are more likely to pick
up bad habits if their parents don’t drive safely. Even though you
can do drivers ed and your parents can teach you, but it comes
down to the person behind the wheel. The teenager must realize the
responsibility of driving safe. For me to realize this my parents
always say drive as if your grandmother were in the passenger seat. I
found this to help me realize that being a responsible drive both
helped me be a safe driver and to also realize how important it is to
be a safe driver.
