War On The Domestic Front
Highways and
Freeways should not be painted with the same amount of blood that
litters fields of war. A Sunday drive should not be like going to
battle, lives should not feel as if they are at risk anytime they sit
behind the wheel. The death toll of driving has surmounted that of
even the most horrid of wars, and for what reason? The only way we
can help purge this pandemic is through proper instruction of how to
handle an automobile. Drivers ed helps teach aspiring roadsters
how to work the machine. I believe, however, more must be done to
assist young drivers to know the ins and outs of a vehicle. More must
be taught about just how deadly 60 MPH is. The growing brain is very
susceptible to knowledge, it is like a sponge ready to absorb
anything thrown at it. So, a drivers ed should try to focus
its attention to younger ages, and begin the teaching process at an
earlier age so that the driver is better prepared when he/she gets
their license. Getting more exposure at a younger age can help with
irresponsible drivers. Some of which, I have drove with, on many
occasions. They all can be described the same, wreckless, unaware,
speedy, and unfocused. Those are the core attributes that I have
witnessed first hand with my friends. Friends who just weren’t
taught the risks that are brought not only to themselves, but to
others. I have taken my own steps to being mindful and focused on the
road. Never once have I looked at my device while driving; never have
I put myself in a situation that could do harm to others. When I
drive with careless drivers I like to point out what they do wrong,
and when we stop, I show them just what harm reckless driving can do.
It’s not a fun thing to try and explain, but some people need
persuasion, especially older ones, because it is harder for them to
learn. I alone cannot lower the astronomical number of car accidents,
but I can do my part.
