Importance
of Drivers ed
.

It
is important to educate drivers on the number of deaths due to
driving so they know how to act in those situations. Drivers
education is important because it shows people how to become better
drivers. It helps them be comfortable behind the wheel and not panic
in certain situations. People who take drivers ed are less
likely to get involved in deadly accidents. These classes help lower
the death rates of younger drivers because it teaches them how to
drive safely.

By
having our phones turned off and put out of sight it would reduce the
temptation to text or answer a phone call while driving. In the U.S.
alone phones have caused over 1.6 million crashes. The U.S.
Department of Transportation reported that being distracted by a
phone is more dangerous than driving while intoxicated. Another way
we can lower the death rate is by wearing a seat belt. Seat belts are
important because they keep the driver and the passenger’s from being
launched from the vehicle. The NHTSA reported that more than 15,000
lives are saved because of the seat belt. Going the speed limit can
also save people’s lives. By going over the speed limit the driver is
putting their live and the people around them lives at stake. If the
driver is going too fast and tries to turn, he will flip the car
which would injure him and possible others. In 2018 the NHTSA stated
that 9,378 people were killed due to speeding.

I
have not been in a car accident, but my mom was hit by a distracted
driver. The driver was working for a cab company. He was rushing to
go get his next passenger and ran a stop sign. My mom was crossing
the street and he was not paying attention and hit her. She broke her
arm and had back problems for a while. My mom has made a full
recovery since the accident but still has back pain here and there.

The
steps I can take are to always be aware of my surroundings. I will
always be aware what is happening around me when behind the wheel. I
can put my phone in the glove compartment to avoid any temptation to
look at my phone. Keep the music low so I can hear if there is a
noise either coming from my car or if there is a siren. Never go over
the speed limit and stay at a normal pace when driving. And I will
never drive while intoxicated.
