Benefits of Drivers Ed on
Safe Driving

As
a young teenager, all I wanted was to get my license and a car and be
able to have freedom out on the open road. Before I could do any of
that, though, my mother required me to take drivers ed. Although
I resented the class at the time, I am glad I took it because it
taught me valuable lessons, such as, the importance of not texting
and driving, the dangers of speeding and not obeying basic traffic
laws, and what a privilege driving really is. Everything I learned
by taking drivers ed has helped me keep myself and others on the
road safe.

I sit by and watch as many of
my friends who are new drivers act recklessly in their driving by
texting/being on their phone, speeding, changing lanes excessively,
tailgating and much more. This kind of behavior makes me nervous
because I have seen firsthand the drastic consequences reckless
driving can have. In my drivers ed class we watched many videos
about the effects of reckless driving, and the impact it has on the
people involved lives. One of the most important lessons I learned
in drivers ed was that when you are out on the road, your actions
affect more than just yourself.

Although many of my friends
did not take drivers ed, I do my best to educate them on how to
stay safe on the roads. I try and lead by example by showing them
what safe driving looks like and recommending that they take driver’s
ed. I remember feeling like such a loser when my mom told me I had
to take drivers ed because none of my friends were taking it.
Those same friends are the ones who are now out on the roads driving
recklessly. I think the best thing we can do to prevent deaths as a
result of driving is educating driver’s early on. Taking driver’s
ed and getting educated on the importance of safety on the roads has
had a great impact on the way I drive today. I believe that if all
new drivers learned the important lesson’s I did about keeping
myself and others safe while on the roads, it would reduce the number
of auto accidents.
