The Importance of Safe Driving
The
Importance of Safe Driving
Being
a teen with your driver’s license is one of the most exciting
feelings. You gain a whole new level of freedom that you’ve never
before experienced. Many new opportunities open up for people who can
drive, such as making it easier to get jobs, join new clubs or study
groups, or other extra-curricular activities that may require being
able to drive to get to. Unfortunately, with young people driving
comes recklessness and ultimately danger to the roads. Proper driver
education is important to keeping people safe on the roads.
Some
drivers ed is required in order for somebody to gain their
driver’s license, although the specific qualifications vary by
state. This may not be enough, though, as many people may memorize
the rules of the road specifically for the test, and then once they
pass, it all leaves them. If drivers are properly educated through a
thorough drivers ed course, they may be more likely to retain the
information presented to them and can be safer drivers. People who
are more educated on driver safety will have a more thorough
knowledge of the rules, like being aware of the speed limit and right
of way and will ultimately be safer drivers. If there are more safe
drivers, the chances of a fatal wreck will decrease. Drivers will be
less likely to behave in a way that is reckless to others and will be
more aware of their surroundings and the consequences, so the deaths
due to car accidents will go down.
There
are many very simple actions that can be taken to reduce the number
of driving-related deaths. One solution being simply following the
rules of the road. Following the speed limit, being aware of road
signs and the cars around you will certainly help reduce the number
of car accidents. There is also the matter of following the common
courtesy. Not using your blinker when changing lanes isn’t illegal,
although it does help a lot in letting others know your actions, and
allowing them to act appropriately, which does make lane transitions
safer.
Thankfully,
I have never been in a car accident, although one of my close friends
has. He was hit when somebody failed to yield on a left turn and
totaled his car. This could have easily been avoided had the person
been more aware of the oncoming traffic, or waiting until the green
arrow was present, which would be the safest option.
For
me to be a safer driver, I will be more aware of my surroundings, and
exercise caution around more dangerous situations, such as reckless
drivers. Strictly following the speed limit is also a surefire way to
remain safe and lawful when driving. It is easy to get distracted
behind the wheel, especially with how commonplace technology is in
society. Putting your phone away or using the Do Not Disturb While
Driving function is a good way to avoid these distractions and have
all your focus on the road.
Overall,
drivers ed is very important when it comes to keeping the roads
safe. If everybody plays their part in keeping themselves safe and
being aware of the consequences for themselves and others if they
don’t, the number of crashes and ultimately deaths will go down.
Having your license is a very freeing and exciting thing but being
able to use is responsibly is the most important part. Keeping
Drivers ed and aware can save lives.
