Wise, Save Lives
There are over
3,000 deaths every year due to driving accidents according to
drunkdrivers.net. Driving schools round the nation have changed how
they teach drivers Ed students to prevent these accidents. It is
important that students take some form of drivers ed school
or online class before they get their license. Students will learn
things they didn’t know and should be aware of. The amount of
deaths in America should be reduced due to all the resources of
driving school. I have been in a driven accident and witnessed many
other stupid ones. Driving school can teach you a lot more than just
how to drive, it can teach people to be a responsible driver for
life.
Drivers Ed
schools inform students of every resource they need to be a safe
driver including the risk factors of when not to drive. The most
common causes of accidents are due to intoxicated drivers. Drivers
Ed teaches you about how much alcohol you can assume before getting
drunk and how even one drink can impair your judgement. Driving
should never be done even with one drink in someone’s system. As
students learn about the effects of alcohol and driving it can
hopefully prevent them from ever wanting to drive while intoxicated
in the future. Teaching kids about the importance of not driving
while under the influence should decrease the amount of deaths in car
accidents as drunk drivers are the leading cause of most deaths in
car accidents. There are more steps to decrease the mount of deaths
related to driving. Drunkdriving.net states, “Cell phone usage is
the second most leading cause of car accidents and deaths related to
driving.” Teenagers especially can’t help themselves from
texting white driving, especially snapchatting. It only takes a
couple seconds of distracted driving to happen and then you look up
and suddenly you’re going into a ditch or cross traffic into other
cars. You see your life flash before your eyes when you realize you
should have never looked at your phone. No text or phone call is ever
that important. Be wise and stay off your phone. There are smart
ways to handle phone distractions too. Put the phone on do not
disturb while driving so the temptations isn’t real. It’s also
safer to have your friend in the car answer the phone call or send
the important text for you in case of an emergency. If you feel the
text or call is important pull over before you forget about driving
and put other people at risk. People forget that cars are a
dangerous machine. I have personally been in 2 car accidents myself.
The first one was when my sister was driving, and we had to slam on
the breaks for a car in front of us. The car behind us was on their
phone and so they could not stop intime when they looked up to slam
on the breaks. Nobody was hurt except for the car. 3,000 dollars in
damage just to one little accident. The other accident happened on
my way home from school. I was driving along with a car in front of
me when I saw a deer in the middle of the road. The car did not see
the deer and hit the deer causing their car to spin out and hit mine.
I did not have enough time to avoid it. The weird part about this
accident was that the deer did not come out of nowhere it was in
plain sight. I always wondered why the driver never saw the deer in
front of them. My only guess was distracted driving. The driver had
said they looked away to pick a better radio station. Something as
simple as music in the car caused an accident. There are many shapes
and forms of irresponsible driving that people witness every day.
Being in these accidents has taught me that even these little
distractions can cause a major impact on my driving. I learned to
better myself from other people’s mistakes and hopefully never be
the driver of these people. There are many steps that I can take, and
others ton be a better and safer driver. First, don’t have the
music too loud. I know if my music is too loud more of my focus is
on my music. Also, to pick a playlists or radio station and keep it.
Changing it can take way too long of my attention. Another easy way
to be a safer driver is to not eat in the car. Some people are top
busy unwrapping their burgers and fries that they only have on hand
on the wheel which causes for less control and more swerving. Thirdly
and the most important, stay off the phones at all cost. Technology
can wait. There also many other small precautions to becoming a
safer driver like checking those mirrors every few seconds to be
aware of your surroundings. Also making sure to check your blind
spot while changing lanes. Using blinkers to inform people if you
are turning so, they don’t get the wrong idea and try to go around.
Using the hazards during heavy rain, snow, or fog so people can see
you from further away. Along with creating more distance between
cars during bad weather meaning no tailgating.
I believe that by taking drivers ed class and remembering to
not let yourself get distracted while driving can help decrease the
amount of deaths related to car accidents. Driving safe is important.
An accident can happen in seconds and it’s not fun being the
person who took someone’s life just because you couldn’t handle
the responsibility of driving. No matter how far the drive, how fast
you are going, nothing lese matter but getting to your destination
safely.
