Drivers ed

Drivers ed is
essential in reducing the number of deaths related to car accidents.
Drivers ed is important because it requires students to
learn just how serious getting behind the wheel is. It allows
students to understand how accident-related deaths are caused and how
to prevent it. In order to reduce the amount of death caused by
driving, it should be mandated that drivers get re-educated on the
seriousness and dangers of driving. In 2019 alone, over 8,110 people
have died in a car accident. Some of the numerous risks and
conditions that all drivers need to understand are texting while
driving, speeding, and even driving tired. In 2017 more than 90,000
car accidents involved a drowsy driver, but no one looks at it as a
hazard as much as alcohol. People typically have their last driver’s
test when they hit the ripe old age of 16. The average life
expectancy in the United States is 80 years. This leaves drivers with
an average of 64 years without being re-educated on any aspect of
driving. I personally believe that every 10 years since a driver gets
their unrestricted license that they should be re-educated and
reinformed of the dangers and risks of driving. I personally have
never seen or gotten into an accident, but have seen friends and
family driving irresponsibly. I get quite scared, especially when my
friends would text and drive. As they put their head down, the car
can veer. Despite having near miss incidents, my friends don’t
change their ways. Personally, I can drive slower than I usually do
as well as pay more attention to my surroundings rather than spacing
out. I rarely do these things, but after writing this essay I
understand that even doing them once can lead to catastrophic events.
