December
7, 2018 will always be a constant reminder of what I consider my
biggest regret. As the eldest sister of my two younger siblings, I
now understand the importance and seriousness that comes with driving
especially, if someone’s life, in this case my younger sisters, was
in my hands. That night I experienced for the first time what it was
like to be in a car accident. I was 16 and in my teenage phases where
I felt the need to feel grown already. So, I decided to sneak out and
take my moms car to head to a party. The party was on the other side
of the city and the fastest way there was to take the freeway. I was
still new to driving and if I’m being honest I wasn’t that
comfortable either to the point where I should be driving. To make
matters worse, it was also raining hard that night. Even then, I
still chose to head to the party knowing it was late and dangerous.
Till this day I don’t know what happened. It all happened so quick.
On our way there, not even 5 minutes onto the freeway, I was about to
switch lanes to take my exit, as I was doing so a car sped up on my
right that I hadn’t seen before. I swerved to the opposite
direction to try and not hit them and lost control of the steering
wheel. The car spun out towards the freeway wall and all I can
remember is looking over at my sister and feeling hopeless.
Thankfully, no cars were near me to where I hit them but, I did wreck
the car onto the wall. I ended up calling my parents and explaining
what had happened. What I had done. They soon came to pick us up and
take us home.

Moral of the story and my
lesson learned. The importance of the drivers ed while
driving is VERY essential and necessary to where we can all be safe
and in doing so, reducing car accidents. As a driver you should
recognize that you are not only putting your life in danger but also
those around you, if you don’t drive safely and cautiously.
Reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving can be reduced
if people would consider a couple of steps before and during driving.
Becoming aware our blind spots. Very important. Be cautious of your
surroundings and don’t get to comfortable to where you are being
careless. Also, having both hands on the steering wheel if not at
least one. This way you’re keeping yourself safe as well as others
people and drivers around you.
