Driving is a privilege that not everyone is able to enjoy. Many are
not able to afford this luxury, and for those of us who can, we need
to practice and perform the safe driving skills that we were taught
from day one in our Drivers ed class. Students and former
students of these classes may say that they are “boring” or
“endless”; however, I argue that they are necessary and
informative
. Many teens and adults alike fail to acknowledge how
much information is provided to students across the nation by these
courses. These Drivers ed courses have and continue to
save millions of lives in the United States through the vital
information that each person learns from them. From learning how to
regain control of the car, to what to do if stranded, it has given
relief, comfort, and ability to drivers everyday.

Being
a teenager on the roads, I continue to see how reckless and
distracted driving impacts people my age, as well as adults. I see
these careless actions when driving with friends and family, which
can have very severe and immediate consequences on those around us.
Everyone at times, including you and I, take for granted our
opportunity to drive, and this can have negative impacts on on the
road. We as a society, need to stop and think about the effects of
the choices we take when driving. By promoting more safe driving
campaigns, informing young drivers, and continuing to use Driver’s
Education programs, I believe that the number of deaths in
car-related accidents can be reduced significantly. Some states do
not have a required participation in a Drivers ed class,
but rather they must solely take the test. With requiring seated
participation in a class, it would only show benefits and a positive
impact on the way in which teens drive. Countless teens would be
able to understand more about the road and the laws surrounding it.

Personally,
I could raise awareness to the issue of driving-related deaths and
promote safe driving skills by taking action within my own community.
I could volunteer in aiding those who have been injured or starting
a program in which awareness of the dangers of reckless and
irresponsible driving is spread. I could think carefully about the
actions I take while on the road and focus solely on driving rather
than listening to the radio or conversing with others, both in which
are distractions that could result in accidents or fatalities if not
controlled. Through an engagement with my community and my own
actions, I could help spread awareness of the problems America faces
with car-related fatalities.
