Drive Responsibly

When first
learning to drive, sitting behind the wheel can be a scary thought.
However, even as an experienced driver, sitting behind the wheel of a
car is still in fact a scary thought. Many people don’t abide by
the laws of safe driving and often ignore other drivers on the road.
Incorporating drivers ed could help decrease the number of
irresponsible drivers out on the road and increase the safety of each
driver. If every driver on the road had to undergo a driving
education program then more people would be aware of the many laws of
driving. The expansion of general driving knowledge given by these
programs would ensure the improvement of road safety and hopefully
bring about a decline in driving related deaths.

I personally
have never been in a car crash myself, however, recently there have
been multiple deaths related to irresponsible driving in my
community. Last year a fellow student was killed when a drunk driver
hit her on her way home. Just last week a student was crossing the
street when a driver noticed him too late and hit him. These deaths
placed a heavy burden on the community and brought irresponsible
driving to the attention of many. It also gave many young drivers the
first hand experience of how irresponsible driving can affect an
individual, a family, and a community.

There are many
actions that I personally can and have taken to ensure that I am in
fact a safe driver. To begin with texting and driving is something
that never happens, if I need to communicate something immediately a
call to that person is placed. I also encourage others to not text in
drive and ask them to wait to respond to me until they have reached
their destination. An action that can be taken to help me and others
become safer drivers is to offer road safety refresher courses. Many
students are not offered in school drivers ed classes and are
unable to attend the summer classes. In addition there are many
adults who greatly need a refresher on road safety rules or to be
provided information on rules that have been updated or changed.
