The Importance of Drivers Ed

Driver’s
education is very important in order to maintain order and safety on
the road. Drivers ed works to educate people, as well as teach
them to drive. Lecture classes gives students information regarding
their state’s laws, tips for the road test, and lessons on what
road lines and signs mean. The driving portion teaches students how
to drive through visual learning. It gives students the experience
necessary in order to feel comfortable in a car alone. Driver’s
education is important because it gives students the necessary
information and training to ensure that everyone on the road will be
safe.

Driver’s
ed works to teach students how to drive, and if students know what to
do on the road, deaths should reduce. Students are taught how to
behave on the roads: how to drive, how to react, how to be
responsible drivers, etc. Knowing how to behave on the road and
actually following through with it is the best way to keep everyone
on the road safe. Drivers ed uses past stories and statistics
during the lecture portion to inform students on what is going on in
the world, and hopefully, convince them not to become another
statistic. Because, the sad reality is, people know driving while
drunk or distracted is dangerous, but they do it anyways. People have
a tendency to believe that they are invincible, and sometimes, people
need a wake up call. Lecture serves to be this wake up call to the
youth. We hear about stories and statistics of deaths and injuries
that occur to people our age, and it makes us think, that could have
been us, it could have been my best friend, it could have been my
sibling, etc. Students relate and begin to grasp how serious it is to
be able to drive and the responsibility you know hold.

The
driving portion of the class teaches students how to drive properly,
but also how to react. Reacting is key to driving, you always need to
be focused and reacting constantly to your stimuli. Sometimes in
distracted driving accidents bystanders or innocent drivers are the
ones that get injured, or even die. The lab hours teach students how
to react to minimize their chances in the future of dying or getting
injured due to the actions of another driver. The driving portion
allows students to learn from their mistakes while having the safety
net of the break the instructor has on their side.

I
have luckily never been in a car accident, but family members have.
Both my mother and cousin sustained back injuries from car accidents
and I have seen how that has affect their lives. Luckily neither of
them had major injuries, but they both still have the pain in their
backs as a reminder of the accidents.

In
order to prevent accidents, people should drive responsibly. You
should never drive while distracted, meaning you should not be
driving intoxicated, while emotional, texting, etc. Ways I reduce my
distractions is putting my phone on do not disturb, that way I will
not be notified when I have notifications. I also keep my radio on
low, so I can focus on the road. Preventing accidents can be simple,
it is very important to take these steps.
