Driven by Knowledge
We
drove along the 405 freeway when suddenly she slams on her brakes,
whirling into the car with bright, red lights in front of us. The
cars hit and for a moment, it was quiet. Then, out of nowhere, we fly
towards the windshield as the car behind us hits us. Luckily, no one
was injured in this three car accident on the side of the highway,
but this terrifying accident showed me how fast your life can be
taken away.
At
the age of 16, we all have the opportunity to begin driving. In order
to ensure that there is a decreasing number of accidents, rather than
increasing numbers, drivers ed is extremely important. If
drivers ed was not required, the number of accidents would
greatly increase. In order to keep the roads safe, we must continue
to have drivers ed as a requirement. In addition, one of the
leading causes of car accidents is being distracted. This could be
from texting and driving, being on your phone, not paying close
attention to the road or being distracted by someone or something in
your car. In order to stop texting and driving, an app must be
created that has the ability to lock one’s phone while they are
driving. In addition, this app would include a feature that sends a
message to anyone trying to reach the driver, saying that they are
driving and if it is an emergency to call or text again to alert the
driver. The driver would then have to pull over and stop their
vehicle in order to unlock their phone to answer their text or call.
By creating this app, people would not be distracted by their phone
and the number of accidents caused by distraction would decrease.
I
can personally become a better driver by ensuring that I am not
distracted by others in my car and by my phone. I can easily pull
over to answer a call and not risk my life and the lives of many
others. In addition, I can help others become safer on the road when
I am a passenger by answering their phone for them and keeping an eye
on the road. It will always help to have more than just the driver
paying attention.
