Driving Can Save Lives
Many
new drivers don’t realize the extent of destruction that a vehicle
can have on a life. As a senior in high school, I understand the
thrill and excitement of getting my license for the first time, but I
also understand the risks that come with driving. I live in a city
where new drivers think they look “cool” when they speed up the
street and rev their engines. Sadly, not many of these people truly
understand the seriousness of driving defensively. It’s only until
they experience the car wreck themselves that they finally understand
the text message they were about to send isn’t as important as
their life and the lives of others on the roads. Receiving driver
education, especially for teens, is crucial to the safety of everyone
on the road. With drivers ed, new drivers are given the
opportunity to learn how to control the vehicle in dangerous
circumstances that are bound to happen while in a car. Driver’s
education reduces the number of car crashes as it brings more
awareness to the importance of control over the car and driving
without distractions. There are several factors that take place in
distracted driving. These include blasting the music, talking with
friends in the car, and using the cellphone. By limiting these
distractions, drivers can reduce the amount of deaths related to
driving. I am highly passionate about safe driving because two years
ago I lost my twenty five year old cousin in a fatal motorcycle
accident. There were many causes that could have been avoided in this
accident, but I learned that the most important steps people must
take in limiting car accidents are by reducing distractions, knowing
how to control the car, and being aware of their surroundings. My
family will never be the same because of this tragedy, but I will
always remember that I have the responsibility to take action in
reducing the amount of accidents and deaths from accidents. To do
this, I follow simple steps every time I am on the road. I turn off
my phone, keep the radio at a low volume, and keep my eyes on the
road at all times. If we all become more cautious and mindful while
on the road for the sake of our own life and the lives around us, the
roads will become a much more safer place for our society and for our
posterity.
