Big Metal Beasts

When I first started driving, it was a pretty scary experience.
Trying to keep a big metal beast between two lines seemed horrifying.
On top of that you have to worry about the other metal beasts beside
you. My mind was filled with countless doubts. However, there was
something that made me more confident in my driving capabilities;
Drivers Ed (Drivers ed).
Overall, driving is
still pretty scary considering how easily it is to get into an
accident. I’m currently located on the island Oahu, located in the
state of Hawaii. Here on Oahu, I’ve witnessed countless of wrecks
into things like other cars, telephone poles, and even houses! While
visiting some family on the west side of Oahu, my cousin and I were
sitting at a red light. We saw a driver driving recklessly in the
oncoming lanes. Once the green light came about my cousin drove
forward cautiously watching the other car. Right as we are crossing
under the traffic light, I see the car crash and the telephone pole
snaps. At that instant the electrical lines come crashing down, just
missing the top of my cousins truck. At that moment my heart dropped,
and it was as if my soul left my body. The only thing running through
my head was “Wow, we could’ve died right there”. When driving
people forget about the car’s dangerous capabilities, and how it
can affect people around you.
Annually on Oahu
about 10,000 car accidents occur. For such a small place, that’s a
lot of accidents. Why is there so many car accidents? Because of the
lack of drivers ed! My parents told me they didn’t have to
go through DriversEd to get their license, they just showed up and
drove when they tuned 18. Most people are found to take their drivers
test after they turn 18 to avoid having to take DriversEd. They are a
potential threat to everyone else driving on the roads, because they
don’t know the proper traffic regulations. On top of that, there’s
many local people who drive with out a license or even a permit! This
is highly dangerous, and puts the driver and other cars at risk.
This is why I think
everyone should take DriversEd (Drivers ed) classes. To prevent
all these traumatic experiences from happening. DriversEd is the
place where you learn how to not only prevent car crashes, but also
to be educated about driving statistics. For example, I learned how
33% of drunk drivers in america are ages 15 to 20. Out of the 10,000
car crashes that happen on Oahu, about 150 of those cases are caused
by drunk-driving teens. And one-fifth of fatal accidents on Oahu,
involve people with no license. These are all risks you face without
getting the proper training at first. Driving is like a job. First
you have to be trained and educated by professionals. With all do
respect, parents aren’t necessarily the best people to learn from.
Only since some parents might teach you the way they only know how
to. That way may be wrong, and cause you to develop bad driving
habits like speeding, forget to head check when you change lanes, or
even parking in between the white lines.
In conclusion,
driving is a dangerous privilege people take advantage of by not
following the rules. When people don’t follow the rules and
regulations of driving, many people can get seriously injured. That’s
where DriversEd will come in handy and teach you everything you need
to know. After a while you’ll be able to tame your big metal beast.
