Driver
education is exceptionally important in reducing the number of deaths
caused from poor driving. By having an education about how to drive
safely, drivers are able to make safe and thought through decisions
while on the road. Some steps that can be taken in order to reduce
the number of driving related deaths would be to reduce the
distraction of the phone while driving. Car companies have already
taken action in doing so by creating buttons on steering wheels that
allow drivers to skip songs with out getting on their phones. Another
example would be the voice commands that allow people to here what
text messages say to them, and reply without taking their eyes off
the road. One way that this could be approved would be a locked box
for driver’s phones in order to prevent distraction from driving.
To force people to put their phones out of sight the car should not
start unless the driver’s phone is in the box and not tempting then
driver to get on it. I have never been in a car accident, but I have
been with people who occasionally drive irresponsibly. A step that I
can take and others can take is to activate driving mode on our
phones so we do not become distracted by notifications, and turn our
phones to where we can not see them to prevent temptation.
