Importance
of Safe Driving

Thousands
of people die each year during car accidents and when a death comes
from something that can be prevented it is even more harmful to the
families of those killed. A family has to live with the knowledge of
knowing that their loved ones may still be alive if those on the road
just drove safely. If drivers fully understood consequences of unsafe
driving and the laws of the road maybe those killed in accidents
would still be here.

When
learning how to drive students should picture that it is someone that
they love in the vehicles around them. Not many can say they would
drive unsafely if they thought it would harm someone they care about.
Death tolls are high because people think they are invincible. In
most accidents people drive unsafely not worried about wrecking
because no one thinks it can happen to them until it does.

When
I was younger I was in a car accident that was not life threatening,
but as a child it was scary. I was asleep in the back seat of my moms
car when I woke to noises and movement. There were cops there before
I knew it and a large dent in the passenger side of my moms car just
after the rear door. The accident was caused by something as someone
running a red light. Fortunately, no one was harmed, but the whole
accident could have been prevented by a little more awareness of
surroundings. There are laws for a reason, to protect those on the
roads, and when people choose to not follow those laws people are
harmed.

There
also things people can do to protect themselves in the vehicle.
Making sure to put on your seatbelt can save your life whether you
are the one recklessly driving or someone around you. Making sure to
not pick up the phone to text or use social networks while driving
can also keep awareness on the road and surroundings to protect you
and others. Planning safe rides in advance if going out for the night
is also a very simple safety precaution that can save lives.
