The
importance of drivers ed in reducing the number of deaths as a
result of driving is to ensure a safe community where one can be
comfortable knowing that their child or significant other will make
it to their destination safely, society must implement a way to
better enforce safe driving habits. For one, a step that can be taken
to reduce the number of deaths related to driving would include
ensuring that all soon to be licensed drivers must take an online
course that forces the individual to be put into hypothetical
scenarios where they must endure the consequences of unsafe driving.
One example of this would be assigning a chapter focused on the
dangers of drinking & driving. One would make the individual read
about that statistics that drinking & driving has along w/placing
the individual in stimulation that allows for them to virtually
experience the consequences of drinking and driving. Another step
that can be taken is to reduce the number of deaths related to
driving is by implementing CHP to better monitor reckless drivers.
DUI checkpoints may be catching those under the influence but rarely
do they catch drivers w/anger issues who take their anger out on
others on the road that leads to accidents. In order to combat this,
CHP could develop a better system in which they monitor a variety of
drivers at once through a system that implements the usage of cameras
placed in areas where accidents tend to occur. By implementing this
system, CHP is better able to regulate who’s at fault during a
collision and why. After determining who is at fault, the party at
fault must be required to take a certain amount of hours that focus
on re-learning safe driving habits, the importance of such driving
habits, and how this will impact not only them but their
surroundings. From personal experience, I recently, my best friend
and I were in the car together when a driver proceeded to speed into
the far left that was only designated for left turns, got out the car
to yell at another driver, then proceeded to speed through traffic,
and made a right turn when it was unsafe to do so. As a result of
this experience, I understand why it’s so important to not only
respect the rules of the road but also being very aware of your
surroundings. A few steps I can take to become a better drive is by
ensuring that I have no distractions going on in the car while
driving. One example of this is that I put my phone on, do not
disturb it and place it into the center glove box to make sure I am
not distracted while driving. Another precaution I take when driving
to ensure that those around me are safe is by installing a dash
camera when driving to record any dangers that may occur to me or my
surroundings.
